Funny you should mention playing an American tune, I was thinking about starting another Fourth of July party, like the one that Picklefish started last year. Why don't we make this the party thread!

I've got an tune I'd like to do and will try to record and post it tomorrow.

Anyone else have a patriotic tune they'd like to share?

I'm working on 'Shenandoah'. Can play it through but, being a slow lamenting song, the bowing needs to be as good as possible. violin-1267It's not ready yet but it will get there.

Yep - to all my American-fiddle-friends across the pond - "Y'all have a good 4th!"

In 1976 I had the good fortune to be in Valley Forge during the 200 year celebration and festivities - great folks, great time.  Met so many friendly people (although a Brit, I guess I was better accepted being Scottish by birth!!!! j/k)

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize on behalf of any Scots who were in the British Army, involved the the infamous burning of the White House in 1814.  That was not a nice thing to do, and we're sorry !

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, the pursuit of Happiness and the Right to occasionally play the wrong note.

I've rushed this a bit. Have only been working on it for 2 days. I should have practiced another day or two but iI really wanted to get it posted on 'The Day'. I've kept it short to lessen the mistakes :) Would have liked it to be 'perfect' for my 'Yanky' friends on their special day. birthday_balloon

Here is my list for my back porch concert tonight:  Yankee Doodle, William Tell, Born Free, Home in Indiana, America the Beautiful, America, Anthem, Anchors Aweigh, Marines Hymn, Taps, Amazing Grace, Over the Rainbow, Good Kitty(Sheldon's Theme), Nights in White Satin, Riff of Rhapsody in Blue, It can't be Wrong, Thaxted, Unchained Melody, Godfather theme.  It is my hope that my wife will appreciate it more than the drum solos of many years past.

 Well done @coolpinkone and @Ferret  - I'll try a small trilogy - have in mind "Tennessee Waltz", "All my trials, Lord" and either "When the Saints..." or "When Johnny comes Marching home" - we'll see...  maybe even "them ole cotton fields...." ( if it was good enough for Creedence CR to cover, darn it, it's good enough for me to have a bash at - showing my age here! ROFL ) - oh - and don't expect it tomorrow !  

Also, Arlo Guthrie "City of New Orleans" ( Good Morning, America, How are you? ) - that would belong in my set very nicely - like I've said before - so many tunes, so little time....  one has to be choosy... grrrr....

Sounds like we have a party and an excuse for a specific thread !

Great video's guys / gals.

I'd love to post, but since using a bought shoulder rest, my neck over my left shoulder has been killing me, even Tylenol 3 hasn't helped. Guess I'll go back to my homemade pad.

 LOL, exactly, @coolpinkone - as the saying goes - ( I forget whose forum-signature it is - but so damned true ) -"To play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable" - to whoever it is on the forum that uses that as their signature  - thank you for drawing this to my attention - and that is my mission ( i.e. to not let a wrong note bother me - ignore it and play on... )

When you play with passion / expression - it comes through - it is like the "feeling" is "carried somewhere inside the sound" the listener is hearing..  and I cannot quite explain it...  (and, I'm not often at a loss for words, as you can all probably tell.... LOL)

To me, it is the "hair on the back of your neck" thing when something you are listening to "seriously wows you"...  totally impossible to explain...  it just happens...

 If I EVER achieve that, I will be a very, very, very, very ( was that a sufficient number )  happy chappy ! 

Once again, since we're still in the 4th - make it a good one, amigos! Jejejej!
