We are under a bad air advisory due to the smoke from the Quebec fires, up north, and pollen. I think the smoke alone would do it today. It smells like the fires are in New York State. It is an eery looking sky.

Just opened the door for a second to go out and film this and come back inside, my livingroom smells of smoke.

If I remember, I will check out my west window at sunset and snap a photo. Last night the setting sun was beet red.

Little hazy here, but we had a big fire up state (careless camper 😖) - not so much from Québec.

This was the sun at sunset. The color is pretty accurate.

We were told not to go outside today.

IMG_9079.jpegImage EnlargerI know. The daytime sun is extremely bright. I held my camera up without looking through and managed to get lucky and got a snapshot of it. It is extremely bright, but here on the ground it is always like dusk with an eery hue.

This is horrible. Let's hope the world finds better ways to contain wild fires. Lord knows that California has its share of wild fires.

People talk about Florida hurricanes, but I prefer the occasional worry of a named storm over this.

@fiddlerman, I agree. Just the hazard from this smoke is scary. We don't go out, It is better today, wind changed. It dropped us down a notch from the purple/maroon air quality we were in, you do not want to be in that zone.

I think the smoke is moving a little west because of a front and wind change direction. I wonder if NYC is having such a hard time because of all the tall buildings keeping it in, like an envelope.

And not as much of an orangey haze, still have it, but not as bad. My hummingbirds were acting weird when feeding. I think it is the smoke. Today, they are more normal. Poor little birdies.

It's not the buildings, the entire mid-Atlantic region from NYC to DC has been hit especially hard by this. It's mostly because an "Omega Block" weather pattern (which is not uncommon at this time of year) has been keeping the mid-Atlantic states continuously downwind of the fires.

We were in the maroon all day yesterday and the night before. Even given that, I was surprised the Mets, not talking the major league Mets, the level they go to when they are injured to get better, actually postponed their games Tues, Wed and today,

Glad we are out of it. Our weatherman showed us the gauge during the 11:15 PM news last night. He was right that it would be better today. I guess they can get it right once in a while, 😂. Still had a little of the smoke smell, but a lot of that orangish hue is gone. Cars weren't going up the road with night time lights on today. The sunset was almost a normal color tonight. Tomorrow should be better, I can't wait to be able to open some windows again.

My brother and sister in the DC area are in the thick of it now.
