This tune is very old and is about a mother who sends her sons abroad, in some tales to go to school, in others they are sailors, in any case they drown at sea but come back from the other side to visit their mother, only to leave before sunrise the next day. There are many versions of this, this is a cut down one, lyrics and lots of variations on the music can easily be found online , as well as scholarly discussions about the origins and meaning of the tune. I tried to play it as close to the fingerboard to get a soft sound as I could without drifting, I could do with another less bright fiddle for this type or tune

Re uploaded it first one wasnt up to scratch.

@stringy  Really nice playing--beautiful tune! I think your violin sounds good for it--not too bright at all.

I'm working on a Halloween tune--will be a couple of weeks before I'm ready to post it, though smile

How about anyone else?  Got tunes for this Halloween Party?

Thanks Sharon, I have played and sung this tune for a very long time using guitar, but, truthfully only learned it on fiddle last night,  I may post something else for this party as well later on depending on how many join in or dont join in, or mày post this one again with a few changes, like double stops, and a longer version, though it does get  a bit long winded, ;)

Bad hair day.. really feelin dogged out.  some fall scenes instead of my usual frowny face.  Testing out a phone video maker.  May buy it to get rid of the watermark and stupid bars across top and bottom.  Lot easier than using desktop for what I use it for.

oh..titles in the description

its more like im her facilitator of food and treats and bringer of dog beds that she can chew into a million pieces so the livingroom looks like a goose had been defeathered in. 🤣  she's sweet though.. we call her the beast ..due to her bark.. but its more of an ironic nickname than anything.

@ABitRusty -

Your playing sounded great & those 2 tunes make a really nice set!

Love how you make your Irish tunes feel so relaxed & laid-back.

Beautiful video - great to see some leaves changing to Fall colors!

Wonderful to see "The Beast" looks like she's having a riot, but should you be sending your Familiar to this Party in your stead?

@ABitRusty - Loved it, the tone and melody were really mellow and I really enjoyed both. Is the "Beast" a whippet? She's beautiful and definitely likes to run!

🙂  No worries..I cleared it with management, plus it was more to keep party going and not for a badge.  In that case it would have required a video of me playing.  I Got a kick out of gif!  Youre and expert for finding those 😁

@JohnG she is a greyhound.  retired from tracks and enjoying the simple life now, I suppose.  .she doesnt complain much except to ask for a daily run or two.

Thanks for kind words everyone!

@ABitRusty  Neat video!  I like how she’s way on the other side of the field to start.  Probably only took her like 5 seconds to do that circle—nice slow motion effect.

When I lived in Colorado Springs, they had a greyhound adoption program (they had a track there).  Everyone I'd seen were nice, calm dogs--I guess until you let them loose in a field--then they're off! smile

Oh, and you’re playing was great, too laugh

not sure on the time..she had already ran a bunch but yeah the breed as a whole has some geddyup and go but usually very quiet and other than size not much hassel indoors..they just like those burst of activity for a few minutes then want back on their bed inside.
