I've posted a bunch of examples of 'Critter' tunes in places all around this forum.
Critter tunes can be found in all traditional Folk genres and Classical music.
Personally, I think "Cluck Old Hen" is worthy of a Party in itself, but this Party is open to ALL tunes that have a 'Critter' in the name - animals, birds, insects, even mythical creatures!
To start this Party off, here's a Scottish Strathspey, The Auld Man's Meer's Deid (The Old Man's Mare's Dead) - intentional 'scrunches' and all!
I don't know how anyone sounds so happy about it, but it's Rabbie Burns lyrics after all. More info in this thread:
Strathspeys & Reels Thread - page 3
I play it in D dorian, but there is an A dorian version (very different) of sheet music at thesession.org Let me know if anyone is interested in learning the version I play - I'll see what I can do.
Come join the Party with YOUR favorite 'Critter' Tune!
No deadline & yes, it's okay to play the same tune as someone else. The more, the merrier!
I'm really looking forward to one day being able to say "I recorded this tune just how I like to play it".
...alas, today is not that day. (lol) I'll have to try to get a cleaner round the next time I record. 🙄

alright @elcbk. heres some very basic devaney's goat. I stumbled on this a couple of days ago and got it memorized by noodling on mandolin. still havent really got down how to play it yet with an irish feel. not really sure what it is exactly lol..shhhh. i did a straight and more of a hornpipish or swing type. and ornaments havent come to me yet. still trying to figure where they fall for me. anyway.. sorry for the long delay. Found it in the Foinn Sesiun book 3 if interested in a version.

@ABitRusty -
DARN, yer GOOD!
THANKS for joining the Party!
How'd you pull that off after no practice?
I'm in awe.
Really liked them BOTH, but you know I'm partial to a little swing. 🤭
Thanks for making this Party SWING!
Man walks into a Pub and yells at the Fiddler, "PLAY DEVANY'S GOAT!"
Fiddler nods his head.
Man waits, listens - doesn't recognize "Devany's Goat" being played, anywhere.
Disappointed, the Man walks up to the Fiddler after the session and claims, "YOU didn't play Devany's Goat!"
Fiddler replied, "Yes, I DID!"
The Man stood silent, with a puzzled look on his face.
Everyone in the Pub started laughing, then they ALL chimed in...
"Devany had TWO goats!"

Think you started something!
...anyone feel another CRITTER coming?
🤔 How come nobody wants to do a Dragon or a Unicorn tune?
Is a Troll a CRITTER?
