Great party theme! And good job everyone who already joined!

And what a coincidence, I had my recital yesterday and the piece I played there suits perfectly to this party. 👍🏻

Armas Järnefelt: Berceuse

Armas Järnefelt was a Finnish composer, and you can read more about him here: https://www.armasjarnefelt.fi/......php/en/
He was, by the way, Jean Sibelius' brother-in-law!

This piece, Berceuse, (Kehtolaulu in Finnish) is perhaps the best known and most beloved of his works. I absolutely love this piece! ❤️ It’s so beautiful and so emotional, it almost makes me cry. It should be played with a pianist, but unfortunatelly I couldn’t find any recorded accompaniment for this. ☹️

Such a haunting piece... so beautiful!

Very enjoyable, emotional performance.

Wonderful info on Armas Järnefelt, too.

Congratulations on your Recital!

Beautiful piece, and beautifully played @Ilona - I knew the air but not the name or composer. Putting this one too on my to-play list.

@SharonC well played, I like all the sliding around. I know nothing of old time/bluegrass, but it sure sounds very special. You manage to make it sound good !

Wow, that was great! Again, I can hear the differences in the different fiddle music between areas. This reminds me of Dolly Parton and the CD I have of her early songs, Coat of Many Colors, My Tennessee Mountain Home. That same sound. Love it.

Thanks for sharing.

Great playing that mate. Made me smile when you said a little rough, we are our own worst critics, especially with this instrument which was designed to test out our skill and perseverance, hardest instrument in the world ,in my opinion and that is the very reason we love it.

Love the usa style of playing, with the double stops used all the time, very difficult to do but sounds great.

Excellent playing and tune.

By the way is that a hurdy gurdy I hear on the album recording? My friend who is a luthier makes those.

When I listen to Stringy and Gregw, I want to set my violin goals for Fiddle. I need to get out my Fiddle lesson book and be a little more serious with it. It always looks so simple when I see it played, but I know it is not.

thank you @mouse and @stringy !

@stringy... I guess its possible on the hurdy gurdy question..but, i think its a combination of him being crossed tuned DDAD and maybe the recording quality.

A WALTZ!

 I LOVE IT.

You sure got a bowing thing going on that I really like!

Making this into a Dancing Party!

Have to admit, when I 1st saw the title "Midnight on The Water", my brain was really thinking "Ooh, Smoke on The Water"... I snapped out of it. (lol)

I can't hear well enough yet to be able to tell... did you cross-tune for this?

Am I the only one that didn't know what a "Berceuse" is?

It's a type of music - usually in a flat key!

"a musical composition usually in 6/8 time that resembles a lullaby"

(Merriam-Webster dictionary)

🎵

Don't worry, I had no idea either. Well, except that it's a sort of lullaby (since it's the translation of the word "Berceuse"). About the flat key and time signature, I'm likely to forget it in five minutes, as I don't play with sheet music I don't remember these things…

Really well played @ABitRusty :–) tricky, with all the double stops.
