For this party, I picked a tune I learned with my teacher back in 2017: Chorus from Judas Maccabaeus (from Suzuki Book 2).  It always sounds and feels sad to me when I play/hear it.

Played with The Traveler yaaaa_gif

@ABitRusty Excellent playing on your O Sullivan’s March – and beautiful pictures.  A good description--a lonesome lament.smile

When you write your memoir (because we all should do that, right?), it should be called "My Life in Images"; and you can include all the wonderful photos you've created.

@Jols  Great job, Jols!  Sounds excellent!  And, liking the shift to 3rd position to avoid the string crossing thing—nice exactly

thank you!

haha..idk about a memoir.. ill leave that to whoever.   I know i have accumulated alot of photos thrpugh the years and am snap happy as youve detected....i take snapshots mainly.  The smartphone helps with that.  I have an official "camera" but its not handy most of the time.  We do talk about different photos alot.. like where we were and what happened that day..so on so forth..yadayada....so we do revisit through them more than i expected when taking them so not totally a wasted effort.

I dont enjoy recording video of me playing as much as recording the audio.  its easier for me.   i guess i could just upload audio but youtube doesnt let you do that so its why i put some images to it.  figured if putting images id do my best to pick something interesting to me.  fingers always crossed its watchable.

Nice playing as always sharon,  great that you got it together so quick as well. Never heard that one before, and I sort of collect this type of tune, love the duets.

I am working on a second entry for this party. I have found sheet music, because I was having a hard time with a section when trying to do it based on a recording I have. I thought Fiddlerman had it, but it is not listed.

I don't like the key I found  it in. It is just the Key of C. I was doing the key of D. It sounds much better in the Key of D. C is too low for that main first note, and I think that note is key (no pun intended) to the entire piece. That note sticks out in the recording I have of the absolutely very best version of this song ever sung!

I am now having trouble fixing that part I was having issues with to be in D, and not the C that I have the sheet music for. It sounds funny if I switch to C for that part. Again, it would sound better in D.

Even though I said it sounds better in D because, in my opinion, C is too low, it does sound better on my viola. It has a fuller sound. I also do not like C on my violin. I might try different strings next time. Maybe a different A string? I also have trouble hitting the mark with the C. I am used to C#. I might have to put a dot for the C temporarily, just so that I know where to aim. It sounds terrible if I am flat, which is generally the case. I cannot get what my short lived violin teacher said about finding it, and it really messes me up. You cannot tell someone where to find it based on your finger width! I have wide fingers.

I might see if I can find the CD with the song to this and see if it is sung in D. Maybe I can play to that?

I am not stating which song. Right now, I do not want tips. If I do find I need them, I will let you all know which one I am doing. 😂 I have found that on a knitting machine group forum, I cannot say anything without someone telling me how to do it, which does not help me learn or figure it out. I have to try, first. I tell them it helps me to write out my thinking in the Member Thoughts, similar to our blogs but not as good, section, and to not provide help unless asked, but they always do. I tell them I am just keeping track of my thoughts and tries. So frustrating. 🥴

Ok, I did some checking. To transpose this song I am talking about in the above post, I have to move up all notes a while step. Bummer. I was hoping to find someone that would just have it, without wanting me to make an account. Done with those. I have a hard time making neat sheet music. I will see what I can do. 😂

I have Forscore, but that does not transpose.

@stringy  Thanks!  The composer is a harpist, and wrote it as a self described “beginning” cellist, so I thought why not? I think the lamenting “feel” is better expressed on the lower octaves of the cello for this tune—but I don’t have a cello smile

@SharonC that was great!   love the backup.. from what little i have done with it,  playing that 2nd or 3rd part is difficult.   its one thing to play the melody but another to do other parts.

@SharonC -

VERY nice duet in G minor!

Congratulations, think 'Roshans Lament' is the most melancholy tune played so far!

Thanks for the info in your blog (so glad you are back spending more time with us).

I always enjoy watching you play - glad you joined the Party!

@ABitRusty Thank you!

For the viola, I just looked at the piano chords for the tune the composer made--and tried to pick the right note smile

I've played a lot of duets with my teacher, and switched back & forth on the parts

@ELCBK Thank you!  Yes, Gminor - a very "lamenting" key, I think.

And thank you for the welcome back smile
