Looked like it was going stale so heres another, this one is supposed to be originally from the 14th century, its been collected by quite a few different people and various dates have been put forward but is fairly accpeted that its English from the 14th century.
It has words and is a very sad tale about a young feller whos girl dies, and for a year he sits by her grave weeping, till she appears as a spirit, he begs her for one last kiss, she says no and tells him he must get on with his life till god calls him.
I had to read this as I was lent the music today, and have only had 3 play throughs, now my mates off home with the music, dont know were he got it, but there are some good very old music shops near here, he thought I might like it. Played it in the bathroom as abitrusty mentioned for a little bit of reverb. On listening to it though, I dont think its done much for it, may try it on leccy if I can borrow the music again
Heres a version I found on musescore, basically same ,this is on leccy fiddle though, much more atmospheric I think, wasnt going to put it on but couldnt resist in the end., I have been researching it ans apparently county down tune was lifted from this, as well as several others,
This was through my Roland 40 watt cube with reverb and a touch of echo, could do with a better leccy fiddle though I think.

Anything you want to do, do it, I love hearing your contributions and everyone elses as well.
I really feel that this forum is a very good community, there isnt one person here who I dislike or whos music I dont enjoy listening too. Its quite different from all other forums I have been on.
Must be entertaining for people who just drop in, and I hope maybe join up as well. I get the feeling that there may be people who would like to join but are embarrassed which is why I think it was a good move allowing just audio files.

@stringy Divas & Lazarus sounds great! Sounds like Star of the County Down. One of those tunes known by many names, I think. I've known it as the hymn Kingsfold, as well. But I think they're all a little different (e.g., meter, etc.,)
I guess maybe the name is determined by who claims it
Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

Does have a slight resemblance I think sharon, but this one is a lot older than star of the county down, and is an English tune as well. To be honest though, I think there are bound to be similarities with violin tunes. This may even have started out and then become gradually transformed as tunes are.
Heres a good one with the words

Abitrusty, thanks for your extremely, and more than kind comment. I was trying the bathroom thing you mentioned but it disnt come across as well as in your own playing, and thats the truth. As for the vibrato, I dont think its that needed really but I enjoy practising it, I am pleased you could even hear it, because I find it extremely hard.
If I got the music back I might try it on leccy to see what it sounds like but wouldnt post it again anyway, just want to keep the party going.
Would love to hear another from yourself, and others of course, If you get the time.

@stringy -
BEAUTIFUL!
Very enjoyable listening!
I also immediately recognized it as 'Start of the County Down' (the march & waltz equally good), but I'm glad you brought up the topic of ballads/songs (you know I 💖 them). I really need to start another thread, but let's just say I've seen many times where a poem or song lyrics have been attached to several different tunes - including 'The Unquiet Grave'.
You might find it interesting, where 'The Unquiet Grave' has not really been associated with only one tune, 'Dives and Lazarus' has stuck pretty true to the one you played.
Dives and Lazarus is considered a Christmas Carol! It's Child Ballad (#56) for your tune & title with these lyrics - a bit of a foreboding moral... the uncaring rich better be good to the poor!

Emily didnt know it was a christmas carol, would likely give the kids nightmares. Its i teresting the history of these things, I honestly hadnt noticed a similarity with county down, especially as that ones a bouncy tune and this is melancholy, but I think melody are sometimes taken or at least bits of them and stuck with something else. I found luke kelly singing a version which is nothing at all like this one, surprised me a bit to say the least. Thanks for the great comment by the way.
Abitrusty, I am going to have to experiment with different settings I think to see what I can get, you should do that Devaneys one again and post an updated version, maybe a party with animals in the title, if it hasnt been done, thanks again for the comments, look forward to hearing anymore contributions you might have. Like the images as well.

Thats excellent, I absolutely love the visuals they are bob on I also love the drone, it gives a real scots feel, the images are very like Scotland. Brilliant playing that, and really atmospheric, be a good lead into one of those braveheart type films. Thanks for taking the time to put another one together.

@Mouse i like the old timey film overlay... but in my other app i can adjust some of the effects.. i would have adjusted the flicker to be slower on this if couldve figured out. i couldve just took it off and used raw video but liked the affect enough even with the flicker to use it so left it alone.
