It's one week until St. Patrick's Day and I had an idea. Let's hold a virtual St. Patty's Day party right here on the forum. All you have to do to join the party is post a video of yourself playing an Irish tune. This is not a contest! Any Irish tune will do. Duplicate tunes are OK.

I'll get things started by posting my rendition of Danny Boy / The Londonderry Air. (Apologies in advance for hurting any ears when I go for the high B.)

Now it's your turn! Who's in??

Very nice, Diane.  I just learned something, I didnt know Danny Boy and Londonderry Air were one in the same.

Smile........ smile

Well done.

Hi Diane,

That sounds like a fun idea. I think we will be hearing a lot of "Oh Danny Boy" though. I've been practicing it for some time now so that I could put a post of me playing the Traveller on St. Patrick's Day.

You did a great job of it! I hope I improve soon because as it is now I sound horrid. I suppose I have to dig deep and get my Irish on for this! LOL!

Looking forward to what others will post.

Thanks, Ken! I tried to smile, really I did. The best I could do was remember to close my mouth when I realized it was hanging open.

drooling

Can't wait to see your video, Fifi O'La Fume!

And that was fast, Paul! Nice!

BTW, multiple videos from the same person are OK, too, if anyone has more than one Irish tune they'd like to do. If I have time, I might also do "Molly Malone."

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

This is Siubhan Ni Dhuibhir. I have rather poor lighting and thought I'd just run with it.

I love all of the videos so far. Thank you all for sharing. I will definitely play Danny Boy because it is my favorite, but I will try to come up with something else.

Thanks Diane ... like I haven't got enough on my plate with Pachelbel???

Once again you've come up with a splendid idea ... I hope you get lots of contributions.

Wish I had a green hat!

If I can get a video of 'Butterfly', everyone can close their eyes and picture Mairead playing it ... or maybe not!

Forgot to say that audio-only recordings are fine for those who don't like to post videos.

And I also forgot about the refreshments for the party! It's pot luck and BYOB. Here's mine...I brought beer, coffee and a cake.

Pretty poor effort at 'The Butterfly', but I went to the trouble of finding the only green shirt I own.  Also the video software distorts the sound a bit (maybe that's an improvement).

I would've preferred to be hitting the correct notes ... but it's only in fun I hope.  Have another Guinness before you listen.

cheers

Thanks for coming to the party, Fishnrodds, Matt, Robyn and Ferret! I enjoyed all your performances.

And like that Robyn twas wearin' o' the green.

Matt: I really like that tune. The dark lighting and the changing tree nicely complemented the haunting quality of the tune.

It's shaping up to be a great St. Patty's Day party!

Nothing starts the 'ol Patty's Day off better then good Irish dancing and fiddling. With no more  being said, I offer The Hudson River Dance.

I want to join the party! Here's my submission of John Ryan's Polka (first started to learn it this past Sunday, kinda shaky but time is running out to join the party). I wore the only shirt with green in it I could find, plus hung a green blanket up.smile
