Hey Pierre, I'm not trying to manage anything on behalf of this site that you've worked so hard to develop,,,, it's just an offer I thought I'd throw out there, and I stole your branding, lmao!

January 24th - 27th, 2013, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) will be presenting a 3-day convention in Anaheim, Ca..  Pierre and his son will be coming to SoCal for that week; I'm going to be attending for the first time, and a few others have expressed an interesting in coming together, namely Denny and Terry so far, and Scott [MGN] is already here.

So here's my offer, for everyone who can make it out that weekend for whatever reason; go surfing dude, visit long lost relatives, visit Disneyland, just come out for a drink with some friends,,, whatever the reason, if you can make it out, I'd like to host a party at my house that Saturday, Jan. 26th.  BBQ, booze, fiddling, & just a grand time with friends!  Can you imagine a funner time (of course I know that's poor grammar but I'm feelin pretty colloquial right now, lol) with some of the best people you know!!!!!!!!!

I won't be able to put anyone up at my place, but I can definitely host this little party for the day.  Oh, Denny said he'd bring the moonshine,,, Barry, did you hear that!!!!!  Why don't you all try to come out!!!!!!!

So let's start getting signed up on this thread!

First RSVP - ftufc!

Sorry you can't make it Oz, I think it's going to be a ball; but there will definitely be pics!

Yeah, Pierre, no tents, lmao; but there are a bunch of local, low-cost hotels/motels within 5 minutes.

I just thought this morning to invite a handful of the local fiddlers that I know pretty well, and my teacher, and a few others.

Come on you all,

take a plane, take a train, take a car, take a bike,

or even if you have to hike,

come on out, over, or down,

to the First SoCal Fiddlerman Social

(this is the only reason I'm not a successful rapper today)

Sounds like a great plan Fred, I sure could use a week away from the Uk at the start of the year and what better pplace and people to mix it with.
Can you send me some details/web-site links for the local hotels etc. I'll check out some
Flight details. I reckon a whole week in So Cal for me.

You know what, we're gonna give this some serious thought. It's a long way for us but not nearly as long as for Terry, so I guess that's not an excuse. Just have to see how work schedules, etc. shape up.

Visiting southern California in January would be a nice getaway in the depths of a New England winter.

Most of all, it would be so great to meet some Fiddlerman friends in person. And it's very nice of you to open up your home to total strangers, Fred. Well, maybe not total strangers, but people you've never met in person.

If we can't make it, we'll look forward to seeing the photos and hearing how it went. Maybe someone can shoot a little video.

Sounds like a fun party in the making. Thanks for the invite!

Diane, DO IT!!!!!  How could you beat a January week in SoCal!!!!!!  That would be so cool if you can make it.

Yeah Pierre, I just woke up the other day and had this brilliant thought!!!  I think it will be sooooooooooo freakin cool to meet the people we chat with electronically,,,, and there are NO strangers Diane, we are familyafro

You know, I'm going to put together a list of reasonable hotels in my local area, Anaheim (Disneyland), and San Diego, because if people are making the trip to SoCal, I'm the only thing exciting in North San Diego, lmao; if you make it all this way, you've got to check out some other attractions,,, that is if you're still able to walk after Denny's moonshine!

I'll put some info together in the next couple of weeks and post it on this thread.

HEY, how about you other folks?!?!  You deserve a trip out!!!!  You East Coasters, Russians (lol), Canadians, Mid-Westerners, Upstate NY'rs,,,, DO IT!!!!!!!  Would so love to meet you!

soooooo...I am trying to make my arrangements.... I hope to come and visit the convention and spend a night or two at the hotel at the /or near by the convention. I will look into my arrangments in October.  I think it would be just FAAAAAAABulous....I think a violin convention of Fiddlerman folk is just  the perfect  vacation for me.

Yay...Thanks Fred for getting a thread started.... if we plan it...it will happen!

WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO

nothing like offering your home...or some excellent moonshine to get things started..

That's GREAT Toni; hope to see you here!!!!!

When we get closer to seeing who's going to make it, you should discuss, amongst yourselves, possible carpool arrangements,,, at minimum from Anaheim to my place.  Traffic is SoCal get pretty bad sometimes so being able to use the carpool lanes helps a LOT!

It's absolutely my pleasure; I just hope to see a bunch of people!!!

As far as the convention goes. It's a members only convention but between FiddlerShop and "The Slipper™" we might be able to get some passes. I don't remember how many per company though.

I'll get some business cards made as "Fiddlerman.com" UK Based International Correspondant" and/or "Slipper-Rest-UK Sales Rep (not commission based salary I hope)
That should sort the "Trade" angle for me.
....... Fred, that reminds me.......

Yeah, Pierre, we each get 4 passes; and I may have two available; but if I give one to Terry, he damn well better sell a crap load of shoulder rests at the show, roflol,,, or at least be my "booth girl", haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

But depending on the day, I will have 1 or 2 to offer up; all the recipient has to do is wear a "Slipper" t-shirt while they attend.  It will be an incredible show.

Civilised or rowdy?
roflol

Hey Fred, been checking flight details. Will be around £550 for me at that time if year. Which airport would you recommend, LA?
And if I plan to come for a week to 10 days, would you have an idea of arrival/departure dates so I don't miss any of the fun?

D'ya think they'll give me a visa if I put "reason to travel" as "jamming with me mates, and doing Denny's moonshine"?

Oh wow!  That's an awesome idea Fred!!

My wife and I were looking for a winter vacation spot.  We were originally planning to go to our usual haunts in Florida in the late fall/winter.  But maybe we can swing a Cali trip! I'll have to see how my Worker's Comp hearing goes first, through.  Everything should be done by October!

Keeping my fingers crossed, it sounds like a blast!!!

What an awesome idea, Fred!!!  My wife is always telling me I need a "guys night out."  I think I may have to save up the time and make a trip to Cali.  Truly amazing of you to open your home.  (And front yard?)  For the moment count me in...

Dennis bring shine, Toni brings wine and I'll have a cooler of Dos Equis!!! Sounds like a fun time in the making!!!

I assume this is BYOB (cheers) and BYOV violin-studentviolin_girl
