If it were a California port of call, I'd be very interested in going, but Florida is a long way from California where I am based. It's hard for me to take that kind of time off and adding the cost and extra days of travel to get to Florida makes it too hard to swing for me.confused

laughMy office closes the week between Christmas and New Years and then I get one other week of my choosing, so the time off probably wouldn't be a problem. I could probably even swing the financing if I really buckle down and start saving. The biggest issue for me is ailing parents and other family situations. But if there is enough interest and it ends up happening, I'll see if I can make it work somehow. I really do like the idea!  I'd like it even better if New Orleans was the port of call. smile

Pierre-

I love the idea, but the financing is most definitely a problem in my particular case. I think for it to be successful, a Fiddlerman cruise would have to be planned well in advance - like a year - to enable folks to prepare.

I get it. We need to plan it a minimum of one year in advance. Next question is which month should we shoot for? Christmas and New Years would be way more expensive. :( Also, that is an extremely busy time for Fiddlershop.

While I would love to go on a cruise, I don't think I will ever be able to, the expense would stop me.

What would cause my hubby to stop me?  All the horror stories.  Part of my extended family went on a cruise and they all ended up with the flu.  I have/had a neighbor who went on a cruise last January, developed the flu that scarred his lungs.  He died just a few days ago.

@Fiddlerman  When are you sailing the Great American Loop?  We could meet you along the route and have mini jams!!

That is a great idea Schaick. The Great American Loop is on my bucket list but I don't see us finding time for it any time soon. Probably in ten years. The loop is a very long journey requiring almost a year. Some do it in two seasons and take a break half way though. Most people start in the Spring and end up in Florida for the Winter and the journey is usually done heading north up the east coast. West, then south down the lakes, channels, canals, and rivers.

Hopefully we'll make some great plans to meet as many of you as possible when he time comes. :)

I have already started saving but a year to plan (and save) would be ideal for me.

would be great if a few could make it so I could meet the Fiddlerman extended family all in one go.

come on chaps...life's too short.

I was gutted to have missed Fred get - together a while back and ain't gonna do the same again

Maybe more people will see it and take interest if you start a new thread. "Fiddlerman Cruise" or something like that. At least then the conversation wouldn't be buried deep in this thread. Just a thought.

Two great ideas.
I don't know about making it a 2 or 3 year plan because sometimes, things just don't happen when you plan too far in advance. We can make it a Spring in a year plus kind of thing. That would give us over a year. We can try with some fund raising..... Any more ideas?
Good idea fiddle chick. If I plan it, not only will I have a Fiddlerman Cruise forum thread but also a special page with applications, information on events, sheet music for the cruise.... Cruise excursions, you name it....

Here's another idea...in addition to the cruise idea. If some members are interested and able to come to Massachusetts for Fiddle Hell in November, we could organize Fiddlerman.com jams and social activities.

I've attended the past two Fiddle Hells. It's an excellent event for fiddlers of all levels, with workshops on every possible fiddle genre. Instructors have included well-known fiddlers like Darol Anger, Tom Morley and even our own @Worldfiddler Mr. Jim Dorans.

I plan to attend this year, too, so if others are interested, I'd be happy to take the lead on coordinating Fiddlerman.com activities.

Any takers?

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

Lord willing I will at least make a day of FiddleHell, after all its only 1/2hour away. It does fall on my weekend to work (of course) but I have been recruiting a replacement for coverage...

Hmmm. Let's see the details....

will the Traveling Community Fiddle be invited? I'd love to get a turn with it, even if it's not on the mountain top.

Mrs. Ripton has been trying to get me to an island, but so far has nixed the idea of a cruise. If I present it the right way, we could just make it happen.

LOL!!  I think the only cruise I could convince my hubby of is something like his:

http://www.sunstonetours.com/g...../index.asp

No sharks and he would be close enough to land he could swim!!!

LOL Ripton. We'll present it the right way and we'll make sure the traveling fiddle is with us.

Schack, trust me that your husband would swim in the Caribbean. :)
No sharks to worry about unless you go swimming deeper where someone is tossing chum into the water or you're spearfishing and trying to keep the bait from the sharks. ;)
