Hello fellow fiddlers!!
First and foremost, I must apologize for my recent absence. Between family trips, birthdays and health "fun," I haven't really been able to post as much as I'd like. I'll make it up, I promise!
Just today, I decided to take my fiddle on a walk with me to the local park to get some inspiration and motivation to play. With all of nature's fall glory and the Halloween decorations on full display, I came to the conclusion that I did the right thing! It just goes to show that inspiration can be found anywhere if you're willing to look.
I promptly sat my cold butt down under the gazeebo at the park and began to play some nice folk tunes! About 20 minutes in, I had a crowd of kids around me with a few parents! ....wasn't surprised as it happened earlier this year...LOL But what did surprise me were the questions! Especially from the parents! Everything from "How hard is it to learn?" to "What's the basic start-up cost?" .....I was much better prepared for these questions thanks to this site! LOL I just hope that they follow through! The kids seemed really excited!
Then....the requests came it. They wanted to here something related to Halloween. Which really melted my heart as Halloween is my favorite holiday! I asked them what their favorite songs or movies were. One little girl excitedly told me "Hocus Pocus," and asked if I could play Sarah's song. For those who don't know, that song is a lullaby that is sung by Sara Jessica Parker's character in Hocus Pocus. Beautiful and yet haunting, to!
Problem was, I never learned it! I told her that if she could sing it, I would play along. ....and she did. LMAO So, I figured it out on the spot and we had a lot of fun with it!
You never know when inspiration is going to hit ya and what you'll learn next!
So, to make up for not posting in a while, I tabbed out "Sarah's Theme" from Hocus Pocus. (Honest, I read all your posts....just haven't replied! LOL) Hope you enjoy!
What are some of your favorite Halloween songs to play or listen to?

Thanks! It was a lot of fun! I'm getting more & more used to playing in front of people now. The strange thing is, I don't see it as "entertaining" or anything like that. I see it as an opportunity to share. Back in my metal/rock band days, it was all about "entertaining" and pretty much showing off. It almost became competitive when other musicians are around. I'm so glad I'm past that point!
With Sarah's Theme, I never really though about playing that until that little girl sang it to me! I'm so glad she did because honestly, I had forgotten all about that song! I even watched the movie a couple weeks back! LOL I also love the fact that it's a free flow/interpretive song!
I'm actually at the point where I have to write down songs that I've either figured out or want to play. There's so many of them now!

No Prob, @ratvn ! I hope everyone enjoys it!
I've added it to my "fright night" set list! LOL I'm dressing up this Halloween as "demon fiddler" for a friend's party and I can't wait! I already have old, 1800's-ish clothing and just added a hooded cloak and a "plague Doctor's" mask! .....it looks really cool and I can still play violin in it!
I loved the old Swedish folk tune, Hårgalåten and how the demon fiddler lured people to their deaths, so I'm trying to take that angle with my costume. I even have a pretty neat set list to go with it including:
Hårgalåten, Sarah's Theme, Jolly Sailor Bold (Pirates of the Caribbean-On Stranger Tides), Scarborough Fair (dark & creep version), Star of The County Down (again lower & darker), "Monster Medley," Devil's Dream, The Long Farewell (1 I wrote), Lorena
....and some upbeat, fun tunes as well:
Bile 'em Cabbage, The Girl I left Behind Me, Kingdom Come (Year of The Jubilo), Turkey In the Straw, John Ryan's Polka, Irish Washerwoman, Ole' Rosin The Bow, Ashokan Farewell, Over The Rainbow, Concerning Hobbits, Goober Pea's, etc. etc. etc.! LOL
This is going to be so much fun!
