I played!!

You might recall that last December I joined the Central Indiana Folk Music and Mountain Dulcimer Society.  We played at the fair to make money for their production of the Eagle Creek Folk Festival held in June each year.

I played!!  Some songs I played really well - others I really messed up!!!  but....

I played!!!!

Little did I know that the set leader was going to say "ok now we are going to feature our fiddlers"  I freaked a little bit but the first one was Soldiers Joy - I know that one and can play it up to speed.

off topic - Something I learned about playing at the jam, I need to open up with a song I know really well and then the jam turns out good for me.  I think this is telling me my issue is confidence as if I needed a reminder.

Anyway back to the story Jublio is one I almost have down so I didn't do too bad. Liberty - the other fiddler played at lightening speed ( a fiddler of 30 years) so I was only able to get in a measure here and there.  Mississippi Sawyer I played back up chunking chords, but....

I played!!!

Not considered one of their fiddle tunes but Rosin the Beau is one we played and it is a great tune!!

All instruments are welcomed in the society.  Yesterday there were 4 autoharps, 4 guitar, 1 recorder, 1 base guitar, 2 fiddles, some kind of weird banjo lap dulcimer, 2 regular lap dulcimers, a banjo and 2 ukuleles.

It was great fun and I PLAYED!!

Violinist start date -  May 2013

Fiddler start date - May 2014

FIDDLE- Gift from a dear friend. A 1930-40 german copy, of a french copy of a Stradivarius.  BOW - $50 carbon fiber. Strings - Dominants with E Pirastro Gold string.

Congratulations on slaying the dragon! (or if you don't like metaphors, on the fact that you PLAYED!  🙂 )

Really cool 😀 I do enjoy the idea of performing in public, maybe if I wasn't always by myself (well, my recital my teacher was on guitar, but I was the lone fiddler for my part, lol) I wouldn't feel so freaked out about it.

Yes not being alone made a huge difference.  It allowed me to play softly when I was not sure of the tune.  It alo allowed me to sit in the back!!!!
