So due to work recently, I've not been able to use my bow arm without a bit of discomfort. To continue to play music, I've switched to mandolin (I know all the positions and notes, so why not, right?). I'm wondering if it would be acceptable to share my videos in the critique section? I want to share my music, but it's not technically violin. Any thoughts welcome, thanks.

I don't own the site, but for my part ...
We've had members who for various reason have had to or have decided to give up violin. I don't see any sense in shooing anyone off because of that. We still are or ought to be friends in music and friends in cyber-life. For one thing, it brings possibilities for cyber collaborations---mando/violin duets, for example. For another, don't forget that Fiddlershop.com sells mandolins and accessories.

I don't really think that FM is selling mandolins is relevant. Pierre also sells ukes. But I don't mind 'some' leeway. As I said, I play the mando (kind of) but I have never posted here. (Lucky you)
Have also got a uke
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

@RosinGecko Hi hi.. I am so bummed about your bow arm. I am glad you have the Mando to play and share music.
I can't see harm in posting and sharing in the breakroom. But I am not the boss around here. There are a bunch of Mando players that hang out here..seems like it would be good to share and enjoy.
Feel free to hit me up with a link in a PM or chat. I'd love to see what you are playing.

Yikes! - I think I spoke to soon - - I do love the mandolin but have to agree with the posts here that this is a "FIDDLERman" site. @Barry - thanks for the link to the mandohangout site. @RosinGecko - maybe I'll see you on the mando site sometime in the future.

I suppose it is FIDDLERman. I'll leave this up to Pierre then. Just kinda figured since I have people here I have connected with, and a mandolin being basically the same instrument minus a bow, it would be ok; considering I can't continue to contribute videos due to injury.
If not, I'll take it elsewhere. Thanks.

I have usually shared any non-violin/fiddle recordings in the breakroom. But I am not usually looking for critique, anyway.
With some of the fiddlerman projects, other instruments have been welcome, but sometimes Pierre wants to keep it strictly to violins. As far as I recall, that is usually mentioned early on in any of the group projects. Very understandable, since they are a lot of work for him and he has a particular vision in mind for each project.
When in doubt, yeah, best to ask Pierre himself.

Personally, I like seeing samples of the folks here playing on the instruments they play other than the violin/fiddle. While it may not be strictly "violin oriented", it is part of knowing and appreciating others as fellow musicians and friends. It is certainly "music oriented", at the very least.
I mean, birthdays aren't particularly "violin oriented" either, so should we stop all wishing of happy birthdays as well?

Oh, this is great, FM.
Thank you.
