I watched that vid on the harmonics, but if the entire violin is out of wak from shipping, then I'll still need a good ear to get the first note right.  Correct?  Yea...I think I may just have to get a cheap tuner for now...I tried an app on my iPhone then used it against the tuner here on Fiddlerman, but the app didn't even move.  (Stupid Free app, ;)

But, tomorrow when my violin comes in, I'll try the harmonics thing first.  I have a feeling I'll be doing all kinds of things with it tomorrow!! lol

Well favor may or may not shine upon me.  As I have posted already, my Hoffman is due to arrive tomorrow on FedEx. (Yippee for me) but I also have more news!! (is the suspense killing you yet??beg)

I recieved a call from my Aunt in Oklahoma this evening.  Apparently she was doing some Sping cleaning, (is it still Spring or Summer now??  I dunno, but you get the idea...) and low and behold, guess what she finds in the back of her sons old closet?  (you guys will never guess!  Go ahead guess... Darn it!! You guessed it!!)

That's right...a violin.  She knows nothing about it, but she says her son no longer needs it...he has a better one now that he loves.  So he said to ask me.  (I guess I post on Facebook enough that she figured I would want it. AND I TOTALLY DO!!!!)

So after we caught up on old times and family, she took my new address down and is shipping it tomorrow!  So I will have my new Hoffman on my doorstep tomorrow and have a backup or even a primary (depends what I find out) in the mail and here about Monday or Tuesday!!  What luck do I have?  Apperently good luck for a change.  (Murphy and his laws can leave me alone once and a while.)

So, as soon as i get the other violin in, I will let y'all know all about it as well.  (I am already excited...AGAIN!!!)

I have the Franz Hoffman Prelude. I love it, but can't say I know much about them so I may have loved anything.

Do yourself a favor and get a better rosin from the beginning. I hated what came with the violin.

So the rosin sucks...gotcha.  I figured it would.  When I looked up the replacement rosin for it, it was about $2.  So yea, I am definetly buying some better rosin.  Probably the L'Opera Jade rosin.  You need to post a vid or at least audio of it.  I am curious as to the sound quality.

Mine is coming intoday. (I am actually typing this as I watch the mailbox, lol) So I will have something posted tonight.  Please wish upon a star that that FedEx truck gets here quickly!!

Thanks Daniel and CPO.  This pic do not do it justice.  I know this is not a million dollar violin, but I truly think it is beautiful.  (Maybe because it is my first and you always think your first love is beautiful?)  Either way, I plove it.

As for the sound @FM violin-student... I tried tuning it best I could without a tuner and using your guide.  However I think my speakers on my little laptop are not very good.  I downloaded an app to tune it with and I found my A @ 440, so i think I got that right.  As for the other strings, I tried my best by ear.  (my best by ear is probably not something I should brag about, lol)  I ordered a tuner from Fiddlershop and low and behold I ordered the wrong one. facepalm  Luckily, Pierre aka "The Man" banana, caught my little mistake and has fixed the problem.  (A major shout out to Pierre, who without him, I would be trying to tune my violin like a viola, lol.)  But for what I had to work with, I think the overall sound is beautiful.  When I get my tuner and get it all set up, correctly, I will post an actual vid of the sound.  I was going to post a video of me opening the box and everything, but I did not have the patients...I wanted this thing out of that stuffy box and into my waiting hands.  (Afterall, I think my little Baby is claustrphobic.  She acted so scared when I opened up that mean ole dark case.  But once I had her in my hands, she trembled a bit, but she came around and began to sing.  Ahh the beauty of a fine instrument.  Oh how I missed you.) heartheart

Well it has been 5 days since I got my violin and my wife has already thretened to beat me if I do not take a break! lol

My biggest problem... I can not read music.  I have watched several of the videos on here and I am still in the dark greatly on that point.  I want to post a vid of my progress, but without reading music I have nothing to progress on.  I looked up several things on-line, i.e. FACE and Every Good Boy Does Fine, and I also tried to combine that with Pierre's fingering chart, but even on Twinkle Twinkle, I can not find the right note.  On the G, G, F, F, E, E, D...Where the heck is the F note?  Or am I just that far off base.  All I see on the fingering chat is an F# on the EM pic or an F on the E string in the BbM pic.  Either way it seems it doesn't sound right.  ANy advise so I can say i am at least progressing!  Or a link to a vid on here that may explain it better.  Please I am desperatebeg...lol.

violin-studentBut I am still ahving a blast!!

I almost forgot... is there any sheet music for Pierre's tune on a G string?  I am rewatching his beginner vids and am trying to do his G string tune.  crossedfingers

If not, no worries, or I may just be overlooking them, lol.  Thanks guys (and girls!)

Use the Key of CM. These are the natural notes. Next I would learn GM. in GM scale the F is played sharp (#) which means that you will move your finger a half step ckoser to the bridge. Next learn DM where the F and the C are both sharp.  As you learn keys such as FM the B will be flat (b) which will be bringing your finger closer to the nut by a half step.

Kevin actually made a fingerboard chart that we have here on the site.
https://fiddlerman.com/2012/04.....lique-pdf/
This could help you in the very beginning.
I also have a couple games that can help you learn to read music under learning tools. A counting game and violin fingering game.

Thanks  alot Kevin...that reallywas what I was looking for, and the CM makes a lot of sense.  Also, I got my tuner in today, (shout out to Pierre for getting it here so quickly) so now I can get the ole fiddle tuned.

@ Pierre- I tried the games, but I guess I am soo noob that I can only get one sound right, lol.  But I am still working on it.  I think the game is a cool, fun, way to learn the sounds.
