Hi Pierre, this is a tune, I want to learn to play. I don't get the hang of its division to give it rhythm and Im not sure if the music sheet I got, mirrors the version I have of this tune. I can send you the tune or post it here if you like. Let me know what you think.

Thanks a lot,

Juan violin-1260

If your question is whether this sheetmusic is properly notated to reflect the piece that you have in mind or have been listening to, you will definitely need to post the piece that you've been listening to.

Two mistakes in this sheetmusic at a glance.

The first is that the triplet marking was left out but it is obvious in the first beat of bar nine.

The second is the repeat sign at the end of the piece was left out as well. It's obvious though because the forward repeat was added an eighth note before bar 5.

Great Pierre, here I upload the piece, hope this helps. I love the melody of the tune, really helps me let things go and find clarity. That's why i want to learn it :)

Let me know what you guys think of it :)

Juan.

It's nice Juan,

But the sheet music is not really written like this. I would say, learn it off the sheet music and play it from your heart. There are so many things that are different rhythmically and a few enhancements that are not written.

Also, I do not believe a piece like this one is intended to be copied exactly.

Gotcha, I am not sure if I can get it by ear yet but I can try :)

Thank you very much Pierre :D

I'll play it for you on your FL lesson in December :-) We'll work on it.

I play that tune, and it's not quite the same as the music. I don't think any players today would play it exactly as is written there.

I learned the tune from Alasdair Fraser many years ago, and I have the music too ... a slightly different edition, from J Scott Skinner's "The Scottish Violinist".

I think a good recording would be on "The Road North", by Aladair Fraser. I have it on tape somewhere ....

Now that I've been reminded of the tune, I'll need to practise it again :)

OK, here we go :

http://worldfiddlemusic.com/gu.....aid-01.mp3

It's a long time since I've played it, and I've never done it on my 5-string before. Anyway, it's not that different to the printed music. Right-click on link above, and save to your computer. :)

Thanks, Fiddlerman :)

I'm working through my other tunes I learned on 4-string. Most of them are OK on 5-string, but now and again if need to hit hard on the G string, you can catch the C string by mistake. Not so bad if the notes harmonise, but usually the C is unwanted :)
