Great Chinny smile

After turning on the video take some seconds to feel the music, get comfortable and set up before starting. On the video, watch your very first note for example. Come down slowly with the bow and place it on the string gently. Without full pressure begin to draw the bow.

Hear the piece in your head before starting.

Observe what you do with your hand while playing the decending scale from B natural to A, G F# in the first measure. Try to play same thing while keeping your hand and arm more under the violin (elbow to the right) and not moving the hand to the left. Note that when you vibrate the A your hand is automatically in a much better position.

When you shift into fourth position your fingers would be more comfortable if your arm came around the instrument more. Obviously not so much that it is uncomfortable or strenuous.

Also, when you are playing in the high positions, you need to keep your fingers tighter together than you do in first position. The distances between notes are smaller up there.smile

At 25 seconds you'll notice that your hand is in that better position again. When you use your fourth finger you are forced to have it right which is great. You just have to keep it there even when using the 1st and 2nd fingers. Try playing scales with just that in mind. Keeping the hand in one good position.

The squeak around 30 was your 3rd finger touching the E string very slightly while you crossed the strings.

You are doing GREAT. Thanks so much for posting.

I gave you many comments because I see great potential in your playing and this helps many viewers at the same time.

Whoa thanks for the essay, I'll have to slowly work my way through them smile Its nice knowing all the little things that I'm doing wrong like when my violin squeaks and it sounds like a fail harmonic note but I cant work out whats the cause of it (but now I know!).

I just found a recording of the same part on my laptop but theres no video and I used my electric violin with a lot of reverb and a tiny bit of presence. I did this about a month ago, obviously didnt have a very smooth start either and you can hear my hesitation. Just thought i should share it anyways here

You did great! I love the song, it's pretty catchy! I'm not an expert like the Fiddlerman, so I don't have much to say, other than you do have a haste start and that your right arm could come around a little more to the center of your body.

WHOAAAA i havent been on this site in years (I printed the music sheet off more than 5 years ago and happen to find it again this year) and seems like they put up a pure violin version of it. Click here and under 'chrono cross' look for either 'time's scar' or 'scars of time' dancing

Hey Barry, my kun shoulder rest is actually on my electric violin. the one i was using in my video is a cheap 5 bux fom shoulder rest that i bought off ebay. its adjustable in all the same spots as my kun one. it doesnt have as big as a wave shape though and when i first started using it, it use to fall off a fair bit.

It was much better than using rolled up clothes strapped to my violin with elastic bands though. I cant remember how much i paid for my kun one but for its price, i think the fom one is pretty good. if you're interested i'll go through my ebay history and show you the one i bought.

My kun shoulder rest has 3 horizontal adjustment spots (essentially 6 adjustments) and height is determined by winding the legs up or down

I first started playing the violin when i was about 8? I've put it down twice now and I'm picking it up for the third time (long road man!)

i dont use tape anymore but since i dont know the distances well enough and i tend to pluck the strings, viewing the fingerboard from side on is very different to viewing it from the bridge so i bought violin fretboard stickers from here. It's a little pricy, and tbh i cant really feel it when i play. I only really use them when im pizzicato-ing when holding my violin like a guitar

I was thinking the violin was backwards, then, Chinny is a lefty, now I know better. Is your webcam used for astronomical observation. Telescopes do the same thing, just top to bottom.

Great job on the song, I remember my kids playing this video game I think. The tune is familiar. Not as familiar as the songs from the "Link" series...lol

I think the reason my camera does that is because it's less weird for when video calling other people because then the mini display acts like a mirror.

Thank you! Did your kids have a play station? Or did they use an emulator on the computer because I use to play it on an emulator too.

Thanks for the link Chinny, that's a haunting tune.  I'll check out the site.  My kids used to watch anime on TV, and I always loved the music.

I agree you're doing very well, and third time should be lucky for you, you sound awesome.

The one with the playstation is living in Wyoming. I have one left here and he is an xbox360 guy. With headphones, thank goodness.

If your kids had the play station 1 then theres a good chance they've played chrono cross before. You're glad he uses head phones? oh how times have changed. I use to sneak onto our consoles and play without sound so that I wouldnt get caught exactlyMan i sound like a rebel. Im actually a good girl okay yell

how old is your son? normally if i want to contact my friends i'd fb chat them or spam sms them ahah! that's why you dont play with headphones, so you can listen out for the sound of footsteps... those are my tricks of the trade to maximise my gaming time tongue
