I stumbled upon this tune when I was practising my violin. I couldnt work out all the notes when I was looking at my hand so I closed my eyes and bam all the notes came out :D The song is called Waltzing Matilda, it's as Aussie as a song can get haha

I've heard of the song, now I have heard it! Thanks Chinny. In WWII the US Marines would get leave in Australia between island campaigns. One of the tunes they learned was Waltzing Matilda. They brought it back to the states with them.

Just have to say Chinny, I love your attitude. (I'll be the Simon Cowell here though)

You're not playing in tune. I'm guessing you are not playing along to the recordings of the songs enough. Ear training is just as important as hand positions. Slow down and really try to hear each note. You rock Chinny, I'm just trying to give you good constructive critique.

I can't wait to hear more, you are on your way to be a rock star ;-)

That was a pretty fast "waltz" but you managed it OK.

Very pleasant  sound from your violin.

It looks like you were watching your fingers (?)  True?

Thanks, slightly off though but thats because of my fingers not the violin. No my eyes were actually closed. It's hard to tell because I'm Asian and my eyes look the same whether they're open or not. rofl ... I'm not racist! Just telling the truth tongue

I only ask because I am intrigued with people who can actually watch finger/note  placement.  I learned finger position by imagining the fingerboard from the scroll end.  If I look directly at the strings during playing, it all looks backwards to me and I won't last out the bar!  Then too, I am basically a sight reader with my attention on the printed music.

The violin student who is in real trouble is not the one who plays out of tune but the one who doesn't know it.

I've played violin for quite some time now so looking at finger placement from the bridge down the fingerboard for the lower positions look rather normal to me. But this view is really warped because of perspective. Like when I pluck/pizz my strings at night and hold my violin like a guitar, I look down on the fingerboard its like sooooo different, almost like a totally difference device rofl.

I usually focus on reading the sheet music until I end up unintentionally memorising the piece then I look elsewhere like at the fingerboard or off into the blue yonder. Oh joy I guess that means that not all hope is lost on me just yet then laugh

All you have to do is answer the given questions.  It's just like making a post.  I don't think anybody will actually interview you.  It's just a questionnaire.

It's also a lot of typing depending on what you say but you're a lady of few words dazed

Didn't someone else post his interview (Daniel?)  Look at the thread.

Well Oliver, not that it matters but you were chosen as the first. Special honor :-)

Daniel did a great job and I'm happy he did it but we were discussing this thing for a little while. The idea originated with Barry and we all made comments and added to the questionaire.

The idea is that we feature a different player every week.dancing

I think the issue now is that Chinny thinks she has to wait for a personal, one-on-one, interview because the thread says "Membership Interview" but that is not true …… right?   Chinny can just post her reply.  I mentioned Daniel who wisely copied the questionaire into his post and edited it as his post.  Can't Chinny just post to the forum any time and you can copy into NEWS at will ?

If interviews are not being solicited then why is there a post to that effect ?  Besides which I do not see a flood of responses smile

dazeddazed

The magic number "300" refers to the member count, a figure also being watched by the big FM !

It would work any old way but the post got started because we wanted to make this a group effort for the questions. I like the idea of featuring a different member each week so that we can focus on what they said. If everyone answers the questions at the same time, It'll go in one ear and out somewhere else for me. This makes it kind of special and exciting from week to week. Sorry for the confusion though. It's all my fault. I take full blame.devil-violin

Just 2 more to go. Yeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should really study more but whenever I see my violin I end up procrastinating.
