Agreed!exactly

Don't listen to all those persons, " who shall not be named"! Everytime there will be somebody who will say something like this. They always think that if You learn to play violin, You have to immediately play like Hilary Hahn and only the pieces that they like LOL!

Can always tell them that if they buy you a $5000 violin you would play better :p (can always try anyway).

Hey, don't despair! Believe it or not, I heard progress in the three videos.... or maybe I just got used to how you were playing, but I will choose "progress"  thumbs-up

Keep going and concentrate on relaxing. One of these times when you aren't worrying about your deadline you will notice the song has "clicked" for you!! Really!

First off..You are doing great.  That is some excellent progress, and I have no doubt that you will have that song sounding excellent by the time you need to perform it.  We believe in you.  You are doing good.

Coolpink, I would guess that the dear husband is *not* a musician himself?

Most people are used to hearing the processed and optimized pablum that the music industry pushes.  They don't realize that it may have taken that pop star a hundred takes to get one good one, and that then a team of experts worked over that little bit of music that was played or sung to fix every tiny little rough spot and sweeten it up.  It is multimillion dollar product and it is simply not allowed to actually have any real rough spots.  By the time anyone hears it with the band or performer "on tour" they will have done it hundreds of times in practice with very good gear and a lot of support/coaching and another team of experts who work to make the live sound consistently excellent.

Or even when hearing a bar band or street busker play, one is hearing the result of what is often a tremendous number of hours of practice.  Probably sounded more than a little rough when they were just starting out.

Fellow musicians will *usually* be more encouraging and supportive, because they go (or have gone at some point) through the same stages of practice and development.  The average person, on the other hand, is sort of trained to think of music (or any art) as something that is easy and effortless.  Maybe you recall an old Dire Straits song, "Money for Nothing"?  Sadly, it portrays an all too common view of musicians.  LOL

Not that it excuses discouraging a spouse who is doing something they love.

Oh, and if he *is* a musician?   Then he is very naughty (not in a fun sense) and should consider that he has to sleep sometimes and baseball bats are much less expensive than violins.  LOL

But don't let it discourage you.  You are doing great.

"This young wine may have a lot of tannins now, but in 5 or 10 years it is going to be spectacular, despite the fact that right now it tastes like crude oil. You know this is how it is supposed to taste at this stage of development." ~ Itzhak Perlman

You sounded like you were making great progress, I always think if it gets better the more you play it then play it more and more. You can def tell it's improving so just keep going....I always think if it improves after 10 plays then I'll try and play it 50 times, and it's gotta get even better (not sure if that is right or I'm just obsessed)

I've been on Auld Lang syne for over a week now, play it about 4-5 times a day and every time I hit a right note I sing a little yeah!......then over and over just to make sure it wasn't an accident.....

I am humming it to sleep, it's driving me nuts.....but I am hoping it's worth it and I can keep those "GOOD" notes for another song.....

Nice! Good progress!

For now, when You practice, try not to play it all through, but play mostly those places where You feel uncomfortable, then add the next measure and etc. As You learnt the piece, You could play it along with some video or mp3 which could be found in the internet...

You have a great goal for a nearest future! It's awesome! Don't be upset with anything! Don't expect from yourself to do everything at-once! Long process but it worth it!

You doing very good, so cheer up!

thumbs-up

Toni!  What a great surprise.  I've been out of the loop for several weeks, and I come back to hear you playing like an advanced beginner.  You've really come a long way, and I mean that sincerely!

Keep up the good work.

I've learned so much from my mistakes that I've decided to make some more.
