I made a quick video of the Irish Washerwoman. It's not perfect, I'm still workin my fourth finger, and getting my third finger back where it belongs when I'm playing natural notes. My bowing looks spastic, but my teacher wanted me learning this without any slurs.
not completely happy with how this sounds, but ah well, it's where I'm at.

@Fidelestre Thank you I'm finally feeling comfortable enough with it to try and make sure I add the accents on the right notes, though I am so very not comfortable with the last line of music on the B part, and I know my teacher wouldn't like that I let my wrist bend again like I did in this video while playing the E string, lol. I only do that on this song, and I don't know why. I guess now that I feel more comfortable over all, I can focus on that again when I play this song. I really want to get this one up to speed

@Fiddlerman @coolpinkone Thank you
Today my teacher said that their recital is in December, and asked me if I was interested in doing a song. Not sure I'll be brave enough, but I'll at least think about it, maybe join the little kids and teenagers, lol. She said she could accompany me on guitar if I do.

@damfino ,
I think it would be great to participate in the recital. Even if you're the only one past the teen years, so what? You may very well inspire another adult to take up violin too. Plus, it would be good practice to help prepare you for playing with a group in a session. Plus, the audience would probably enjoy having a nice Irish jig or reel mixed in among the various renditions of Twinkle and Lightly Row.

@Fidelestre I might have to make myself do it, it might be good for me to challenge myself. While I'm hard on myself when I practice, I know I would practice with a different determination if I knew I had to perform in front of people, so it might be a good boost for my playing ability.
And you're right, it might help encourage one of the parents to take up the violin

@damfino six months into playing.. About 8-9 lessons.. I joined in with recital yhatvmy teacher put on... Yep... As an adult I played Twinkle and Scarborogh Fair with all the young ones.
I am extremely shy... More than most could ever understand... I was petrified... I actually don't remember it much... It's just a blur... But I was determined... I hid in the back....
anyway... If you can do it... It will be rewarding.....
@Fiddlerman interesting on the beta blocker..... Maybe that will help me not almost kill myself on Fiddlefest!

I say go for it...
I was a little over 50 before I ever put a finger on a violin. Yet I only have played for family and friends. At first it was hard to do, and then I started playing at work at night to a warehouse environment of people running machinery. Most were in their own little world doing their thing or had headphones on... but it was still playing in front of people. If they like what you are doing, they will let you know... if not, it's not much different than practicing except with an audience (if that makes any sense).

Damfino, I concur your playing extremely well for 3 months, consider breaking the ice sort of speaking by participating in the recital, it well help you grow in you violin experience
Just my 2 cents for what its worth.
Well done. Mark

@coolpinkone I am horribly shy/introverted, too. My playing always gets worse when I think about people being able to hear me. From the sounds of it, this recital is just pick a song, and you perform it alone or with the teacher accompanying you, either as a duet on the violin, or on guitar, front and center. She is urging me to go with a song that she'd play guitar on. I won't be able to hide like I'd like to, lol.
I'll be just slightly over 4 months into playing by then, so hopefully the extra time learning will help... if I do it, lol. I feel like I have to, lol. If anything, it might be fun seeing the kids playing after I fudge through my song, lol.
@Taper123 If I were brave enough I'd take my violin down to my local park to play and get the feel of playing when I know people can hear. Plus I also just want to hear what my violin sounds like out there. There's awesome shale cliffs along a (usually) shallow river that I'd like to play near.
Edit to add a link to a picture of the pretty shale cliffs I'd like to sit by and play... maybe in the spring

I don't know how we survived 2 days without being able to chat on the forum
I had my lesson today, and I told my teacher that I will do the recital. She said she will try to put me in with mostly high school kids, so that I'm at least not going on after a 9 year old, lol. Not sure how I will do, but I will give it a try.
Anyway, I did a new video, of Old Joe's Jig:
