I thought I'd give Kindascratchy a break from party organization, even though she lives in the most patriotic part of the country! ha ha, This Sunday is our churches patriotic service so we the orchestra are doing the standard medly themes. Its fun to play since I hadnt tried any patriotic songs yet. Anywho, when mine is done I will post and I hope you all do too.

Thanks, Rob! You read my mind. I was thinking we should do a Fourth of July party. :)
I've got a few patriotic tunes in my repertoir. Just have to polish one up and I'm in!

Hi TerryT,

Which part of The Last of the Mohicans theme tunes are you looking for?

I got the one of them, The Kiss if that is what you're looking for. I posted a review/progress report in the share video section, in which I played part of it.

Let me know if that is the one. I can send it to you.

"That sounds great! Does anyone have the music from the 'Last of the Mohicans'?"

Ha ha, @TerryT, fast forward from the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War) in 1757.   Unless I am wrong, the Mohicans were on the wrong side to be celebrating American independence by July 4, 1776.

However if you were to play "God Save the Queen", nobody would know that you were not playing "America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)"!

For our international members, here are a few American patriotic tunes that you might consider. If you're not already familiar with them, I'm sure you can find someone playing them on Youtube. And since most are traditional (that is, in the public domain) it should be easy to find sheet music, ABC notation and/or midi files on-line for them. I can post PDFs of some of these, if anyone's interested.

  • The Star Spangled Banner
  • America the Beautiful
  • My Country 'Tis of Thee
  • Battle Hymn of the Republic
  • Yankee Doodle
  • God Bless America (not sure if this is still copyrighted)
  • You're a Grand Old Flag (may still be copyrighted, too)

If you're not that into celebrating American independence, you could play a patriotic tune from your own country and tell us about its significance. After all, the theme is Patriotic Party. Just a thought.

Great song list!

I'm thinking about doing "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again", and hope to find a good drum backing for it maybe? We'll see how that works out.....lol

I believe this song is also in public domain, since it's civil war era.

Also like the idea that people can play one from their own country if they choose.

This sounds like a blast.....and right up my ally!  I know a ton from Civil War Reenacting!

@TerryT  I have the music you seek! ;-)  Actually, all you have to do to get it is sign up for Jenny O'Connor's (aka The Hot violinist) newsletter at:

http://www.thehotviolinist.com/

for this version of that song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....Vbu8bh7SWk

She also has an 8 part Youtube tutorial on how to play it!  It's really not that hard once you break it down! :D

For the patriotic list, don't forget to add:

Yellow Rose of Texas, Rose of Alabama, Lincoln & Liberty Too (aka Rosin The Beau), ....and maybe some Turkey in The Staw & Oh Suzanna! LOL :P

So Yellow Rose of Texas is one of the patriotic songs? Just like to make sure as I don't know.

Thanks, EJ.

Tis a state song!  I think any state song should be added into the mix!  I actually just figured out Back Home Again in Indiana and On The Banks Of The Wabash for my home state!   :D

.....yes, it was a reb song back in the war, but it's also so much fun to play! ;-)

Thanks, EJ. I had fun throwing stuff in on the fly with the tune, and posted it in the share a video section. I would need to rework it with better phrasing and ornamentation  and you're right, it's so much fun to play.

Thanks,

OK, let's get this jam started! Here's my three part version of Yankee Doodle: fiddle, guitar and tin whistle. I was going to play my fife for historic authenticity but found that I've lost my lip. :( Oh, well. (Gotta work on getting it back.)
