I did my practice on the deck (porch). Here is one of the better (yeah I know) videos I took. Tchaikovsky Waltz from Serenade for Strings Op. 48. Apologies to Pytor..
To play a wrong note is insignificant; To play without passion is inexcusable. - Ludwig van Beethoven
My journey began on Aug 3 2017

Heyyy - you, sir, @JamesRSmithJr - are doing just exactly what needs to be done, both in actually working on things and sharing progress, excellent ! My simple advice is - never stop - it IS a lifelong journey. Simple as that man ! Day by day, week by week it is all progress - even during the "plateaus" we all experience - (more simple advice - live with it and just work through them - it will pass)
Well done James, and awesome for taking part in in the PMOTPDay... !
So... Thank you very much James and thanks for starting a specific thread - I have some video editing to do, and once that's done I'll post a vid on YT of both my PMOTPDay SJ session and some real crazy fun I had with a couple of friends, and drop the link here in this thread. It is NOT to be missed, we were TERRIBLE having never played together before...Hahahaha. But, it's well cool and a lot of fun!
Yup, during our PMOTPDay with my friends who came round - I had an interesting discussion them (Pauline and Bill - yes another Bill) - they ( and I ) are all self taught - and the discussion was all about "how people learn" - my own good lady, Debbie, is ( well, more correctly was ) a high-school-teacher - and of course she taught young adults/teenagers ( both PE and Computing - yes I know, an unusual mix ! ) - and gave us ( myself, Bill and Pauline ) great insight into how and why the "younger minds" choose to be engaged with, and choose to learn a subject or not.
Then the discussion turned from Debbie ( who loves listening to music - mostly classical - but well yes - other genres as well - but doesn't play any instrument) to myself and our guests. So, I ( and Bill and Pauline ) in our younger days "never specifically" learned much about music, musical theory, or playing an instrument as youngsters and our chosen careers were wholly disassociated with anything musical ( although, I truly suspect we always had some hidden desire, or passion to play, and in our spare time, just "messed" with things like guitars, pianos and so on, perhaps picking out the occasional tune we had heard, of course, all by ear...).
For Pauline, Bill and I ( and we are ALL over 65 without giving away a lady's age) - it was a REALLY interesting discourse as we shared just exactly how we came to get into music and decide what instruments(s) to play -....
Know what - without going into details - in summary - the common conclusion we all came to (including Debbie who for many years taught young adults in other disciplines) was this .... If you WANT to do it then the drive and desire is already within you - other things (in life) may well get in the way and perhaps stop us as an individual from becoming the next Paganini or Usain Bolt (or whatever discipline may be your forte) - but - "there will come a time when that desire to do what inspires you, will indeed happen and come-to-the-surface in your consciousness - it is never too late"

Had a fine weekend here - Sat 25th was of course Play Music on the Porch Day - I did a session on StreetJelly, and then we had a great barbecue in the evening. As I've mentioned, a couple of friends came round, and we recorded some attempts at jamming together - with varying degrees of success... Anyway, attached is the SJ show, and later today I'll edit down our jam session and post it as well -

@JamesRSmithJr Thank you James! No prob - we all have our lives to live and the accursed time-zones to fight against... but glad you caught-up and enjoyed the show!
As you can see, I like to record the show "locally" while I'm playing by capturing the SJ window, along with the chat - I always think that's one of the (very minor) issues with the SJ "replay" option which doesn't include the chat window - often the chat can be quite entertaining !
(hmm, dinner is cooking... LOL - OH HECK - I didn't set the timer.... yikes... runs through to the kitchen to see what's happened.....)

Well done gentlemen ?
If I understand well there are sessions on Saturday and Sunday? I have to read about it more and figure out how it all works exactly ?
@BillyG Great repertoire Billy, love the tunes you played!

@mookje - thank you !
The "sessions" as such are generally on a Sunday - here's a link to the Strings on Sunday thread I started - the very first post explains it all - no one person is specifically "in charge" of setting up a Sunday session - life and other things get in the way - but - effectively it is an "open door" for ANYONE to kick-start a Sunday session, simply by scheduling on StreetJelly, identifying the show in advance as Strings on Sunday in your SJ schedule, and then additionally, advertising it on the forum in the Strings on Sunday thread - click here
There is also a separate forum thread relating to various SJ things, including the set-up and use of StreetJelly - click here for that...
Hope that helps, and looking forward to someone who is only 1 hour different in time-zone taking part ! ( hint, hint.... )

@BillyG I just registrated on StreetJelly. I will be a audience member ? I saw you are playing Sunday, Sun, Sep 2, 2018, 10:00 PM GMT+0200 “Strings on Sunday“. I really struggling with the time zones. What time is this in the Netherlands. Is it 11 or 12 o’clock at night, I’m not sure ?

Good morning @mookje, I agree, that "GMT+0200" throws you for a loop. There's only a one hour difference between the UK and the Netherlands. Even Greenwich is GMT+0100 now because it's summer time (Hence, the Netherlands is at 0200.) The change back to winter time is on October 28th in both countries this year.
I always get messed up because, in the USA, we switch both ways a little earlier or later than in Europe so there's always a week or two where the difference between the east coast and the Netherlands is either 5 hours or 7. What a train wreck. It looks like the EU is just coming round to considering getting rid of "daylight savings time" altogether. Yay. Hope we do that in the US too. I think Florida is seriously considering it but it's not sure if just one state can go it on their own (or if it even makes sense in the broader North American context.)
Best,
Holly

@mookje - I may have added to the confusion as well - I actually shifted my intended time from 9pm UK time ( BST at the moment ) to 10pm UK time (BST)
It appears to me that the netherlands are 1 hour ahead of UK - according to what I found -
right here, right now in the UK the "real" ( BST ) time is 15:08 - the internetty ting-a-ma-bob tells me it's
Time in Netherlands
in the Netherlands.
As I say - please note that I did cancel my original timeslot so Barry Nelson would be able to catch us (so did Mandy @damfino ) - StreetJelly SHOULD (other than where countries change to and from daylight savings on different days ( as @bocaholly says ) - StreetJelly should show my (now 10pm BST) show in YOUR own timezone - check again and let me know... this is what I see in the UK -
So - you'll note that my show is 10:00pm - in my own timezone - I sort of suspect you maybe saw my original slot before I cancelled and moved it on an hour.... or... oh - lord knows ! Just check again anyway..
My emails from SJ -
BarryNelson has scheduled an upcoming performance on StreetJelly.com.

@mookje...and to add to the above - if you are looking at it in the "Calendar" screen on SJ, you'll see this - ( well it's what *I* see in my timezone ) -
It shows me the "actual time on-my-local-clock" when the show is on, and because we in the UK are currently in daylight saving time ( BST as distinct from GMT ) that's why I see the GMT +0100 as I hover over the artists - and it is the same for Mandy (her time is shown in my local BST timezone although her local time is 5 hours behind me), and the same applies to Barry, who is actually 6 hours behind me in his TZ.
The use of the GMT +xx00 confused the heck out of me initially as well... especially on some of the really late-night and into-the-next-day shows....

@BillyG and @bocaholly You both are so kind and helpful, thanks a lot. I just looked in the calendar and this are the times I see, my time zone

Mandy, Sep 2, 2018, 11:30 PM GMT+0200 “Stings on Sunday...“

Anyone know how to change privacy settings on facebook? I deleted the original video from my phone so this is all I have left.

Ah, maybe this explanation will work, @Ripton
Go to the dropdown menu at the top right corner of your FB page homepage and click on "Settings" at the bottom of the list:
When the new page appears, click on "Privacy" and there you have your privacy settings. Then just change to "public" the 1st and 3rd edit options in the "Your Activity" section on the right side:
Don't know how you feel about making everything public but maybe you could just do it for a limited time so we can see you fiddlin' with the traveler on your porch
Hope this helped. Thx for trying.
