Hi folks,

I appreciate this is not targeted only at violin/fiddle players - but - you shouldn't be un-necessarily excluded !  LOL

We've recently set up a kind of impromptu get-together on Sundays (any Sunday) where anyone who just fancies getting-out-there and playing is welcome to do so.  The idea behind it is that Sunday is largely a day-of-rest ( aye, that'll be right ! ) and there is more likely to be a chance to find the occasional 30 minutes to do a show.   First and foremost - there is NO pressure to do a set, none at all - there is no commitment - no suggestion of regular, weekly performance (great it you want to of course ) it's entirely up to you if / when you fancy doing a StreetJelly session.

Our first was Sunday past ( 30 Oct ) - and performers included myself, @Barry , @damfino , @KindaScratchy - thanks so much folks it was fun.  We were also joined at different times in the audience by @Ferret, Frankie from StreetJelly and Jasmin Reece II ( Fijapaw ).   Thank you guys !

It is a "strings" get together  - that's why I mention it in the FiddlerMan forum - BUT - it includes any stringed instrument - Diane did a great set with guitar and vocals !   Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, I guess piano at a stretch ( kidding - come on and play the kazoo if you want to, we would love it ).

The other reason for mentioning it here is that this all started in some FaceBook groups  ( and not all people necessarily have Facebook accounts @Schaick and others ) - so - in future - I'll give early notice here.   Well - we don't NEED early notice - I've already said - it's an open-day - it is open for ANYONE to just set an SJ schedule on a Sunday - ANY TIME that suits you - and - there's no-one "in charge" or setting a schedule - advertise it in advance here, or in the FaceBook groups, or set schedule a Sunday performance on SJ and we'll all see it and either watch or join-in....

If you do want to jump in - please identify your session on SJ as "Strings on Sunday" in case there are folks we don't know, and to avoid possibly overlapping another SoS player....

Enjoy !   Music and friends on a Sunday - what can be better.... thumbs-up

Thanks @Fiddlerman - yes it was a lot of fun.

Also, just to say - I don't know for sure when I'm going away again - but for certain I will not be around for playing come this Sunday ( 6 Nov ).

As I said elsewhere - don't let that stop you - if you just fancy an SJ session on Sunday, go do it, publicize it here and in the FB groups we share, and set a scheduled show on SJ titled "Strings on Sunday" and you'll encourage others to join in or watch.  I'll try to catch any performers on the so-called "smart" phone... LOL

Right - gotta get out of here - things to do...

sounds like a real blast!!

I peeked a few times on Sunday from my phone.  I can't alway watch or attend but I do plan on participating sometime in the future.

Congrats on a great and fun venue!  I hope a lot of people tune in and enjoy.   What a great motivation!

I missed it!

I am not sure what this Sunday weekend holds.  Saturday - a birthday, card and pizza night with the kids!!

I need to start raking leaves.  I dreamt last night I was working in the garden.  I woke up so very, very tired!!

Violinist start date -  May 2013

Fiddler start date - May 2014

FIDDLE- Gift from a dear friend. A 1930-40 german copy, of a french copy of a Stradivarius.  BOW - $50 carbon fiber. Strings - Dominants with E Pirastro Gold string.

LOL @Schaick - life comes first - fiddle comes in at a very close second !    As I said, no pressure whatsoever !  It was just a reminder....   and @coolpinkone - same - not a problem - join in when you can !

@Schaick Dreaming about working is the worst. You feel like you've done it all already, and then have to do it again.

I plan to try and pop in on as many Sundays as possible... if not playing then just cheering on the players :)

Yayyy - our most recent Strings-on-Sunday had only myself (played much the same set twice) and Mandy @damfino - but we ALSO HAD @OldOgre  and @coolpinkone tune in, in the audience - GOOD ON YAH GUYS it is appreciated !!!! - as well as a few other lurkers.

LOL @Schaick - you need to get on to Facebook to keep-up with the advisory posts - reminders are usually posted there - and I DID mean to post a reminder here - but- d'oh - I forgot this time round.

Still - we've had four Sundays in a row with between 2 and 4 players....  (and up to 7, 10 lurker/viewers between times ) so, it's all cool, let's keep it up and running and get as many involved as we can !

@BillyG He's OldOgre over there. I happened to catch a little bit of his show because I saw it pop up on their facebook page.

But yes, Strings on Sunday is a great way for people new to StreetJelly to ease their way into online performing with friends to cheer them on :) It's laid back and fun :) I've said it before, but I selfishly use Strings on Sunday as part of my practice routine, to keep me learning to play through songs without stopping if I make mistakes... it doesn't always work, but I'm trying, lol, and I think it's helping :)

I don't think I'll be able to do it this Sunday, I'm dog sitting away from home and I don't drag my laptop with me.

I'm sorry about missing so many shows but I alway shave a great time when I catch them. I'm really proud of all of you who have the courage to perform. The first times are really tough right?

LOL - not selfish at all, a lot of us / we all / -   do that - we push ourselves beyond the "simple" version and work with our embellishments and extensions to the piece... while at the same time not actually trying to "be smart" or whatever, of course not....  we know our limitations !!!!!   And yes, it helps...    "Internal" lines in the sand and all that....  I get that....  ( you know - you feel "that WORKED, I can move on" - or - a "hmmm, OK, I didn't suck TOTALLY, but it wasn't what I wanted" - hahahahahaha - I get THAT - the second feeling - ALL the time !!!!! )

I don't think I'll be able to do it this Sunday, I'm dog sitting away from home and I don't drag my laptop with me.

Awww - that's a shame - no matter - there are 50+ Sundays in a year....  always another one Mandy !

Hey @damfino - I had left my lappy in my temporary "studio" ( hahaha ) and only realised you were on about 10 mins before the end of your set when I finally jumped on to do an SJ test - my apologies - I should have checked the SJ schedule more regularly !  Good to have you there though, thanks for taking part, and thanks for being there as well @OldOgre !  ( and the various lurkers ! )

Next Sunday ( 11 Dec ) StreetJelly itself is holding a "special event" - the"Jelly Jingle" -

sjj.JPGImage Enlarger

Frankie has obviously intended this to be for "seasonal songs / pieces" - so feel free to join in on that - or - if you're not familiar with seasonal / carols / hymn tunes etc - just do the usual "Strings on Sunday" thing - there's no conflict of interest....   I haven't checked, but there are sometimes special SJ "awards" ( the pins you get with certain types of tips ) - there may be a special pin for this event, but I'm not sure....

I'll probably join in, not with holiday tunes, but with my usual fumbley set.

That's cool !   I'll be there......  thinks... if we DO have to go away again this week - yup - we'll be back by Saturday for sure, so it'll be fine for me...

I have a lot of improv carols - but mostly just what I "know in my head"  - not sure yet if I'll schedule specifically as "Jelly Jingle" ( because, I'm CERTAIN many of the other performers won't ALL be doing Xmassy stuff anyway ) or to stick with "Strings on Sunday" - if I have to make a choice now - it would be the latter...   as I say - there's no conflict - it doesn't matter, SJ is open 24/7 for anything/any genre...  no probs... was just thinking about it...

Look forward to seeing you there once again @damfino cool
