With the iSight camera and built in mic on my Macbook with Snow Leopard, I just use iMovie. Not great quality by any means using the Macbook built in mic. But I hate setting up cameras, mics and stuff when I sit down to practice music. If you have iMovie, iSight and built in mic on your Mac Pro Oliver it makes it simple to record audio and video using iMovie. I always have my laptop open in front of me looking at sheet music and listening to audio anyways so why not just open iMovie too and hit record.
P.S. I'm also going to post a review about a palm size Tascam GT-R1 unit that I tested today for audio only recording. Works great with violin! I'll post it in the Learning Violin forum tomorrow...You can usb connect to your computer and import mps or wavs and...I'll give a full review tomorrow. Time to practice my fiddle now

Yeah, It's your own fault Oliver There's many different settings to use for recording in digital format. Don't delete Audacity for recording. It doesn't take up much space on your computer and that software can do recordings as good as Protools, Logic and all of the pro DAWs. You just need to learn more about digital recording and make the correct settings on your computer. If you have Garageband and iMovie just work with that. Right now my favorite DAW is Studio One Pro. It has a built in mastering suite.
Your clip did not upload....It's operator error, not software. You can always email me or call and I will walk you through a process to record yourself...

This should be simple (?) I can post the MP3 clip OK if I choose QuickTime, Shockwave or RealMedia BUT they play whenever I select the SHARE topic. Fiddlerman doesn't want that on the forum. So, he says to uncheck AUTOPLAY but AUTOPLAY is ONLY a feature for FLASH and my clip won't load on FLASH but it works on all the others.
(Did you put up anything more on the hand held or I'll just surf on it.)

There's your problem maybe Oliver?…Quicktime, Shockwave (Adobe Flash) and Realtime have their own media format for audio and video compressed for the web. They are all compressed. An MP3 file is a compressed and degraded version of a song so it can be downloaded on the internet.
MP4 is a compressed video format. Give me a call Oliver. I'll get you up and running on your Mac Pro in no time.
I'll put up more on the hand held but yes go look it up.

OK. You asked for it and now you will pay. The attached audio clip is the product of a revamped recording studio here upstairs. The clip is me backing up Allan Jackson but I'm not busting his copyright because I cut the song in half so it becomes an "educational medium"
Fact is that I'm making more progress in recording skills than playing skills because I'm doing more recording.
Fiddlerman said we could "regulate" any degree of criticism for this thread. Accordingly, I would like to have only glowing reviews
I hope you can hear the violin ( or something ) ( I will soon kill this if autoplay stays on )

What was your post ? A video I guess ?
As far as I know I can not alter your posts but I can only change mine.
It would be good to know what happened for the sake of the site.
I'm curious how you posted whatever it was and I'm sure Fiddlerman would like to know if there are any glitches.
The site lists several media applications. Flash, Quicktime, RealMedia, etc. I would assume that those options refer to programs resident on the Fiddlerman site and not on the site of the poster ??? Right ??
Let's give Fiddlerman a chance to catch up with this thread. I'm pretty sure he has much more site visibility ..... preferences, options, etc.

I love that song. You did a pretty good job (in my untrained opinion). Thanks for being brave enough to share with with class.

@Fiddlerman I did not want to play "over" Allan Jackson or he might fire me !! Ever since I read about jammin etiquette in a book I am worried about being too obvious!
I am working on some "decent" music but I have been really spending a lot of time with recording set ups, routing, mic tests, etc. The worse is over now and I can get back to some routine.
I am playing the acoustic now since the electric broke and that is really strange to me. I will probably set up the repair next week. The electric is easier to play and I miss it IMHO.
@MGN Everything is relative. My recording skills are now twice as good but a mere fraction of what they should be. In any case, the clutter is gone. My "studio" now fits in my shirt pocket

Very nice! Good job on the recording levels, you did not overpower the vocals, and you could still be heard clearly. Nice song too. Thanks Oliver.
