Ok, Ros..... let's start over on a better foot.I didn't say the violin is 30mm shorter, I said the F hole's are in different location's and that put's the nitch in the F hole in a different location.
What I said is, in order for me to get the 328mm string playing length, I had to move the bridge back behind the nitche's which put's it 3cm or 30mm behind the nitch in the F holes.

Oh yes, now I see that you did write that. My first post did not depend on that, but my second one did.
But I like to post that pdf of average measurements because I think some people will find it useful and it will lead them to an interest in some simple tasks such as stringing a fiddle, making a bridge, and getting their bridge at the correct distance, or even setting a sound post. It seems that a surprising number of players are afraid to do anything like that.

I'm fully aware of violin size's and string playing length's, violin's are not new to me. Although i've not played one steadily for all these year's, I have had / owned a violin for the last 65 years. I quit playing for several year's then started up again, I would start then quit, start then quit. I just recently began playing back in January again and probably would have quit by now if not for Fiddlerman's website. Same with guitar, I started when I was 10 and played steadily for about 15 year's when my wife didn't want me playing in bar's anymore. She thought there were too many women out looking for musician's.
I can't figure that one out.

I did that off and on thing for 9 years while my daughter was coming up in the public schools string program. If it were not for my divorce and my need for a "hobby" to distract me, I probably wouldnt be here either. Funny how life can get in the way.
