@Ripton what version are you using? I ask because you mention a high F at the end. My version has a high D.
Once I am really solid with this I want to learn the harmony.
I think I already mentioned this somewhere but worth repeating!! A while back an awesome fiddle player played harmony with me. Oh My Goodness, it was so beautiful I almost passed out!!! At the end my heart was pounding so hard!! And she, we hugged!! A cool moment I want to repeat!!

Alto Cleft, Key of D. I just received an email from the composer. I was thrilled. He gave me a copy of Prairie Spring to work on. Some day soon I hope to have both of them complete and a video presentation. Right now I'm focused on a jam I was invited to next week and of course, FM's current project.

Thanks Uzi.
@Ripton "Alto Cleft, Key of D" That is what mine is too. Oh, but I am slowly adding the more difficult parts from Unger's original.
Have a great time at the jam very cool!!

Thanks Bill.
I am thinking again I need to start singing more at jam. Have you seen the lyrics of this tune? There are a few variations. I like this one:
The sun is sinking low in the sky above Ashokan.
The pines and the willows know soon we will part.
There's a whisper in the wind of promises unspoken,
And a love that will always remain in my heart.
My thoughts will return to the sound of your laughter,
The magic of moving as one,
And a time we'll remember long ever after
The moonlight and music and dancing are done.
Break
Will we climb the hills once more?
Will we walk the woods together?
Will I feel you holding me close once again?
Will every song we've sung stay with us forever?
Will you dance in my dreams or my arms until then?
Under the moon the mountains lie sleeping
Over the lake the stars shine.
They wonder if you and I will be keeping
The magic and music, or leave them behind
But goodness how to reach those high and low notes?!?!

@Schaick
You know I think the words really have something to do with how it is played. For me.. I learned it with the knowledge of the lyrics and a "good bye" camp song / anthem. Not so much as the Civil War song... which I love to...
Anyway.. I always picture in my head everyone saying goodbye from camp and not so much the "haunting" song that I hear people comment. If that makes sense. I always read the comments on youtube..people say.. "oh that is so haunting.." and I think...
"no it's endearing... everyone going home from camp.."
Just some thoughts... But I think I play a more chipper version???
Rambling thoughts..
Vibrato Desperato.... Desperately seeking vibrato
