LOL - at the end, although I "kind of lapse into shifting" - suddenly I'm playing "Dark Island" high up on the E ( and A) - there is no hope for me, is there ? LMAO.... I often "lose the plot" - but this one is just plain annoying !!!! ( hint: follow the sheet, Bill ! Grrr..... )
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

I have a few different versions, as I was trying to find one marked up with the grace notes etc. That one is all in first position, but I have a plain jane one that uses third position as well. So if I can translate the embellishments to that one, I can get third position AND grace notes etc. , somewhat of a challenge for me still.
I will see if I can scan and post them. And I will practice practice practice and then post my best shot at it as well! I love this tune, one of my favourites.

Here it is, on ending #2, that high note. 4th finger on Third position has me going crazy. Got a few tips on Facebook forum earlier today but did something to my shoulder at work and not too comfortable playing tonight. Any suggestions on how I can work out a smooth transition from first, to third and back to first again? this score came direct from the composer. tuck

Ripton,
You got me on that one, err I got myself I just worked that part out on the Fiddle and was I was going man, that don't look right, it's Written in D but it stating on the B and going to a F two octave arpeggio in stead of starting on the A and doing a two octave D arpeggio boy was I corn fused, Until I saw it was written on the ALTO Cleft (Ok I'm always confused It seems)
anyway on the fiddle I stay in 3rd position and use an open A.

I’m trying to learn this on my own. I’m a semi newbie! I got my first violin two years ago and started out with a great teacher but she ended up going back to school to get her Masters Degree! So the violin got packed away. I’m back, trying to teach myself yet again. So where do I go from here? Is there a tablature available on this? I failed to mention that I’m in my prime, soon to be 74! Never too old to learn something new!
