Hi all... just remember we are kind of solo-ing here.... so all keys, timing and artistry is fine. When we have completed the song to our satisfaction we can post and enjoy. It would be fun if some teamed up too. All forms are welcome.
A little music history.
"Ashokan Farewell" is a piece of music composed by Jay Ungar in 1982. It has served as a goodnight or farewell waltz at the annual Ashokan Fiddle & Dance Camps run by Ungar and his wife Molly Mason, who gave the tune its name, at the Ashokan Field Campus of SUNY New Paltz (now the Ashokan Center) in upstate New York. The tune was later used as the title theme of the 1990 PBS television miniseries The Civil War,[1] as well as the 1991 compilation album Songs of the Civil War.

Yes @Ferret this is similar to a party. We are working together but posting solos or just learning together. In case I was unclear. And I am sure I was... Sorry if I was unclear.. This is like a party. We just post.. But it is like the pre-party ... We are just working together on our versions. :). I am taking the easy version but hope to jazz up a note or two with help.
Happy ashokan-ing !!

Toni.
You where perfectly clear, no problem.
I was just commenting on the variety of versions available for varying skill levels.
I've been working on mine on and off all day and loving it.
There is one part that is giving me problems but I'll get it.
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

Welcome ... hip hip hoory. More participants.
@Barry would love to hear this on the Middle Fiddle.
@Ferret. I have 2-3 parts that are holding me back.. I am working with it so far.. I think when it was written in a simpler form, there are a few places that are tricky.
For instance... (first finger E on D slurred to 3rd finger D on A) Mine doesn't sound right. I think I might check other versions for subs, shifts or ds. I can't get that figured out smoothly.
There is the C# on G string to E slur on A (4th) finger or Open (A). I wish I could post and highlight these. My fourth finger on D string is weak.
Typing before coffee is dangerous... and I slept well last night so I am groggy.
Happy Ashokan-ing and welcome and welcome.

Aw thanks. I, of course, am going through and thinking, oh that note was too short, blah blah blah!
