@iBud - thanks for the backing track - here's a sample play-along - I didn't really practice much against it (like 2 or 3 times) - it slightly "defeats" my own "timing and interpretation" of the piece that I am so used to ( oh, that's all MY fault for not using sheet! LOL ) - so - and @Georganne - I had a bit of trouble "getting into it" and fluffed a few things although I discovered a new little embellishment I quite like - but - keep at it - you'll find the way !

...and to all the folks here and across the forum, I've been a bit quiet recently - it's a work thing - but I do keep an eye on what's going on - and I just HAD to have a shot against the backing track....  I'll be back ! LOL

Bill

That was awesome... you got me wanting to make a backing track now  :)

okay.. here is week two..

I really can play it better.. there are mistakes..but I just wanted to share  in the Violin-a-long.

I have two parts that are giving me fits.

Sometimes.. (when not recording.. I can make this sound prettier..not so rushed and more fluid). Oh well.. gives me a lot of room for the next sample.

Anyway... I am working on it.. and having fun .  I  learned the lyrics to the first verse today.  (yes, I cried).

Happy Weekend.

very impressed !!  you have really come a long way !! good job fiddler !!

@Barry - love the viola - what a sweet sound - and thanks for the appreciative words.  That was a very quick attempt at using @iBud 's backing track - as ever it could be better, but I always enjoy "playing along" to other stuff - it forces you to "adapt" to what can often be be a slightly different interpretation!!  Oh - - and off-topic - I'll get back to you with the SJ stuff...

And @coolpinkone - nice work !pink-violin-girlthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-up

I'm beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel regarding work (and hoping the light I see ain't a train coming the other way!), so I should be back on-stream early next week ( I know, y'all miss my comments! LOL )

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Aloha @Barry,

I've never heard a viola "solo" before and wish to thank you for that.  I really, really like the deep, warm tones your viola created.  Wow, that was nice.  I can only wish to have your intonation.  That was very nice indeed.

It's so cool hearing and seeing all the different interpretations of AF. I love your viola performance, Barry. Great job to all!

Here's my contribution, finally. I really struggled with the timing for a while, but I finally got it down fairly well. The other Scratchy sisters contributed but stayed off camera for this one. :)

Thanks, Barry. Yes, I made the backing track myself, playing both the mandolin and guitar parts.

I was going to put this on my StreetJelly set list, using the backing track. I'm working on backing tracks for all my Fiddlefest tunes.

Aloha everyone,

I was planning on posting another video, but my bowing is still a little bit on the wandering side.  I'm going to have to concentrate on that, but in the meantime, I'll try to get an audio recording of the version I play.  Hopefully I can put something together tomorrow, but definitely by next week.  I've enjoyed seeing and hearing everyone's submissions thus far and feel a bit remiss in not submitting of my own.
