@iBud - didn't think intonation was "shocking" at all, good work for 7 months.

Aloha @BillyG,

I tend to be hypercritical of myself, especially since I have a music background.  I still think I should've had much better intonation, but I just got a Blue Snowball iCE USB mic and that makes a world of difference, not with the intonation, but with the actual sound of my fiddle.  It's like night and day.  @DanielB mentioned that it sounded like the mic I used was under my fiddle.  I was actually using the built-in mic from my iMac - I don't actually know where it is physically located, but I can tell you that the Blue mic is much better.  Look for better sounding video/audio recordings from me in the future, but not necessarily better intonationcool

Aloha again everyone,

I used my new USB mic to record "Be Thou My Vision" again.  It came out a bit better, but I still have lots of work ahead.  I hope y'all enjoy it!

Well after a super long day at work, I came home, brushed my hair, put on a green shirt and did these in one take.  Yep, bad notes, bad timing, two whole do overs....but there it is, all in one take.  Since I mostly play Celtic music, these are a few of my current favorites.

Will Ye Gang to Kelvingrove, Cailin Mo Ruinsa, Too Young to Marry, Johnny Cope, Scotland the Brave.

@Georganne - cool !   And I had forgotten about Kelvingrove totally - my mum was from Glasgow originally, and way back then she told us she used to visit the Kelvingove museum, and spend time in the park.  It was a song she would sing from time to time.   Thanks for the memory - I'll have to add it to the repertoire !

My hubby and I have a tradition for the past 30 some years of being the last to leave our neighborhood Christmas party.  I tell you this because... well just one more song.

Well that's just pretty cool.  First out of country trip I take, I'm going to Ireland.  My mom's family is from there so I am really looking forward to it.  Have to buy a house here first!

LOL - somewhat belated, but no reason to stop the party - you guys inspired me with Londonderry Aire / Danny Boy.   I finally got around to Danny Boy using a harp and whistle version I found on youtube as backing.   Some of you will have seen this on my FB post, just re-posted here for my FiddlerMan colleagues - I have done better in practice ( as usual.... ) but no matter - here you go - there's a bit of noise of "waves crashing, etc" at the start, but disappears after 30 seconds or so.... feature=youtu.be - sorry it's taken so long to get around to it....

Sadly, the harp and whistle original work is not attributed to any performers - so I would like to thank them anyway, whoever they are....

I love that the party continued beyond St. Patrick's Day! Nice job, @Georganne , @Schaick and @BillyG .

@Georganne : When I heard the first tune that you did, I realized that the melody is the same as a hymn we sometimes sing in our church, though not one that I know well. It was driving me CRAZY because I could think of a few of the words but not the title.

lumpy-2134blurry_drunk-2127droolingbeg

Thanks to Ray (OctaveRay) on the chat, who came up with the title of the hymn -- The Summons -- and a video to go with it.

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

That's so cool.  I have found that many of my Celtic songs have morphed into American religious hyms and other music.
