Giving this a little bump for anyone that may not have seen it yet. Should be a fun event
It's a fun chance for new players to get a chance to have a laid back kind of recital... I mean, what's easier than doing a recital from the comfort of your own home? You can play one song and be back in your pajamas in no time, enjoying watching the other players
You have a month to work on one of the songs Fiddlerman has made a demo video for (so helpful!) or if you are working out of a book, pick one you are most comfortable with and play that
Worried about only playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star? Don't be, because all of us will be playing first year songs!
Worried about making a mistake? Don't be! We're all learning and understand... (and I screw up just about every song I play on StreetJelly, and I survived every time, haha).
Need help figuring out StreetJelly.com ? We have tips sprinkled throughout this thread, and feel free to ask questions!!

Bumped again ! Please read post #43 in this thread - Mandy has said it all !
And thank you @CyndieZ for expressing your interest - c'mon beginners - even if you REALLY don't want to play - you can post here items you would like discussed, walked-through etc...... we all started from "scratch" ( hahaha - pun intended )
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

I don't have the equipment or the courage to participate, but I'll be sure to watch at least some of the shows.
I really like the ad-picture for the event. It looks very professional.
It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself. Johann S.Bach

@AnnyJ Whenever you have the equipment (we do other events on StreetJelly) it's really not as scary as you might think. It's pretty easy, less intimidating than doing a real recital Especially this one since we'll all be playing stuff like Twinkle Twinkle, and people can just pop in, play one song and be done
And thanks, that's my little wall hanger fiddle (a maybe future project fiddle) and my microphone in the little ad

Again @all beginners and newcomers to SJ - just an additional note about the "equipment" you may need, or think you may need - sure - you can, if you want to (and probably use it more for other purposes) use external microphones and external web-cam or video-cam with USB feed, mixers, effects boxes, and amplifiers - BUT - if you have a laptop with inbuilt mic and cam (just as you would use for Skype calls) believe it or not - you are pretty much up-and-running for streetjelly....
The "extra kit" just helps make it look better (you don't have to sit directly in front of your laptop for the camera, and an external mic won't pick up internal-to-laptop noise - like fan noise etc etc - and FX boxes and amps just add stuff like reverb, echo, and other subtle effects to "widen" the sound of the solo instrument and make it more "interesting" (possibly - hahahah) ).
If you can Skype on your computer, with no additional equipment - then you can just as easily go live on SJ ! As easy as that....
Really.
Trust me, I'm a fiddler...
EDIT : Oh - and I meant to say @AnnyJ - "courage" doesn't really come in to this - we're all FiddlerMan Family - all happy to share our successes and our failures in equal measure. "Perfection" is not what we are looking for, besides, on solo violin, perfection is rarely achieved - I see players of 10, 20 years plus, still fluff the occasional note and they just play through it as if it hadn't happened! As ever - NO pressure my friend - but do think about it - we'd love to have you join in....

I may give it a whirl. I just created my login on Street Jelly. It's KimmieD. I'm going to try to do a test Broadcast now to see if I have any issues. If all goes well, then I would be able to schedule about 10 minutes. I don't really know alot of songs. I've been practicing Minuet 1 and a short version of Scarborough Fair. I also know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. My long-term goal is to play Skyfall by Adele, but...baby steps.

I completed a Broadcast test and the sound is marginal. It picks up my violining, but there is another noise that is noticeable when I stop playing. There are no fans or sounds in the house. It's a soft hiss (maybe from the computer itself), but it should be okay. Eventually, I may pick up an external microphone if I do more shows in the future.

Would be great to have you join, @kim-d ! Don't worry about the hiss, if it's what you are hearing with earphones in, it's possible nobody else is hearing it.
Look forward to seeing your show When you are logged in on StreetJelly, and look at the Calendar page, right now the only shows scheduled on the 19th are for this event with Billy opening, all the times will show in your time zone so you will know what time to schedule

Great stuff - and thank you @kim-d - I've noticed some "hiss" ( or even a slightly "buzzing-sound" - while playing ) on my own test broadcasts - but - on asking the audience when actually live - I've been told it's "clean".
I have also noticed that my "recording-level-settings" ( I'm using a Windows laptop - albeit with an external mic ) can sort of 'adjust the point, or sensitivity-level' at which sound will be recorded - i.e - (a) set too high - ( the level ) can distort your sound because your audio is actually over-driven and clipping - which (for my setup) will also, as you described, sound "hissy" - even when you are not playing or speaking... (b) if set too low - the recorded audio doesn't "kick-in" (i.e. to the listener) it is total silence until you are either talking, or playing loud enough.
*** BUT *** I also have "other low-level-audio-processing-software in -the-way" which possibly makes my configuration different from your own.
Long story short - it is probably just an artifact of the "test-environment". I would forget about it, and get some feedback from actual live listeners during a live broadcast.
Hope you can join in ! It's great fun, and really helps you to get to better-know some of our forum friends !

Woo-Hoo! Only a little over a week away before show time! This will be a fun event, made special for 1st year students (meaning all you playing anywhere from 0 months - 1 year!) to feel comfortable joining in on an event, get your feet wet in performing. Especially all the self-learners who don't get a chance to do a recital (I did my first recital at exactly 4 months in).
Let us know if you need any help navigating StreetJelly.com !!
