Good - we have 7 so far - now come on all you shy beginners - we have a number of players signed-up for the event who have a "reasonable" (some MUCH more than others) time of playing under-their-belt - and who are happy to give their time, and go back to "basics" to share their own journey, and to help you on your way.... GO FOR IT !

@Ripton mentioned in "another place" ( LOL ) about viola parts - here's viola versions of French Folks Song - one in C, and another in G -

Oh - in retrospect - perhaps the .pdf versions would be better - here they are -

Thanks for keeping fiddlerman.com on there too Bill. :)

Which is another reason to join us folks. Its a chance to spread the word about fiddlerman.com and share all the free lessons, instruction and community Pierre has brought to us. You'd be amazed at how many people are inspired by us and ask about violins and violas, how to learn, where to buy..and our answer is always fiddlerman.com. because it truely is far more than just a place to buy a violin. So come out and join us and support a great cause..because everyone starts somewhere

OK - first slot picked - go ahead - add a scheduled show - I'll kick-start the whole thing and I'll be on for 30 mins. Slot in where you like (don't overlap) and title your show "Fiddlerman Amateur Hour xx min" - so if you're only up for 10 or 15 mins, others will know when to schedule !

Note to newcomers to SJ - the time of any show is shown in your own, local timezone - the 8pm shown here is my UK time ( GMT ).   In eastern USA for instance, you'll see that as 3:00p EST

I went ahead and scheduled my show for 4:00 PM EST
If you are logged into streetjelly.com, you can click over to the Calendar here: http://www.streetjelly.com/calendar and view the scheduled shows in your time zone. Right now only Bill and myself have shows scheduled, but you can get the idea.

Again, please title your show "Fiddlerman Amateur Hour-XX Min" (you'll see I titled mine "Fiddlerman Amateur Hour-30 Min") so we know how long you want to be on for :)

If you just want to do one song I suggest scheduling for 10 minutes, that way if you have a buffer if you run into problems, or want to chat and ask any questions :)

Oh - and of course @Fiddlerman - thank you for going to the trouble for doing the "beginners' pieces - even your "demo pieces" are filled with expression - way to go man !

Let's get some players "out there"....

One tip for playing and watching shows on Streetjelly, is you'll want to be sure your flash player is up to date. Here is a quick link to check yours out: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-.....yer.html

It would be cool to get some people who just started and wanted to post just one or several pieces. :)
Just saying!!! If you are shy, maybe you can use a mask and hide your identity.

  I agree - that's really why we're doing this !

Also - there are may be beginners who *really really* just do not want to play live - but  who may prefer to be in the audience to pick up "hints and tips" that got us (the people playing) started as beginners and to where we are today.  Possibly to ask questions in the text chat.  Listen to our feedback as players, what we struggled with as beginners, how we resolved problems, what we still struggle with, and so on.

If you prefer to do that (just being in the audience), then please express your interest here - there will be absolutely no pressure - if you don't wish to play - no one is going to force you !  But then, at least we'll be able to gauge our intended audience.   THANK YOU !!!!

OH - another idea - if you ARE an interested beginner - please post in this thread some topics you might like discussed, demonstrated, or ask about a simple tune you might like to be "walked through" etc etc... which any one of us would be happy to help with.

The reason I'm going on about this is that the "problem" is really mine here - I have been asked to kick-off the show and I'm perfectly happy to do it.  But - if there are no real-beginners either scheduled, or in the audience - I'm not sure how I should go about it.   These shows are not really intended for us scheduled players to perform our "party pieces" - it would be nicer if, as I mentioned above, we could talk about, and demonstrate aspects of playing and technique using some of the simple pieces already posted by Pierre.

And as Mandy wrote above -

C'mon and jump on in, peoples :)

I second everything @Fiddlerman and @BillyG have said :D

The whole purpose of this event is for the beginners who might be a bit shy of joining one of our usual parties. With those parties we always get people who shy away because they are too new (I was guilty of this myself, haha).

So we're taking this back to the very beginning for all of us and plan to play beginner pieces so nobody will have to feel out of place jumping on to play Twinkle Twinkle, or something similar, because we'll be playing it, too! :)

Please let us know if you plan to attend, either to play one song (no need to do a full half hour) or to pop in as an audience member. Otherwise I have a feeling we'll all fall back into our usual fiddle tunes if we don't think any newbies are around and going to join in on the fun.

Yep, we know it's a month away, but we need to plan our shows, and to have time to help anyone who might be jumping onto streetjelly for the first time :D

I will have been playing exactly 6 weeks by then.......but it is right around the target date that I set to have completed Amazing Grace (beginner version). Depending on how it is going I might be willing to take a chance and perform it. My bigger problem is that we are celebrating my mother-in-laws 91st birthday that day and I am not really sure what time we'll be getting home.

Also, I haven't quite figured out the Street Jelly site yet so I'm not sure exactly what time it will be (I live in Maryland so EST). (Edit: I get it - everyone is picking a time and they are not necessarily next to each other.)

Maybe for this time I will just be part of the audience. semiquaver-1214

AWESOME @CyndieZ - audience participation is FINE -

In the meantime - since you appear to be happy about the idea - I suggest this -

1. Go to StreetJelly.

2. Sign up as an "artist" ( or performer - I forget what term they use )- it's free - and there's no obligation....

3. Once you have done that - you can do a "Broadcast" - ***BUT*** you can do it in "Test" mode - absolutely no-one but you will see it - and indeed - almost every SJ performer will inevitably do a test-broadcast before going live anyway - just to check sound levels etc to make any adjustments that might be necessary for camera brightness, focus or sound levels

4. As an aside - you can go to the performers profile pages ( listed above by Mandy ) and mark them as favorites - and request email notification of their shows - that's how we all catch up....  excellent !

If you do that - then - when you DO feel ready, or have the opportunity to play - it's not a whole new-learning curve.

Ask us here if you have any problems running a test broadcast.

And - happy 91st to your mother-in-law !   Congrats !

And yes - we sort of "try" to make it a continuous show - that's why we state the intended length of our shows so no-one un-intentionally overlaps another player - but - of course - timezones come in to play as well so there can be "gaps" - I know we called this the "Amateur 'Hour'" but that was just cos it sounded good - like an old-time radio-show - world-wide - potentially it could span 24 hours LOLOL

[ Hahaha - right now I see a gap after Mandy and before Georganne of about 90 minutes - although not "scheduled" - there is NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER - if - come the day - the gap is still there - we will work to "fill it in" and keep the party running.... ]

Thank you for your interest - you're the first !   hats_off
