My 7-year-old sister recently quit piano after playing for about a year. I wanted her to know how to play some instrument decently, so I am now trying to teach her violin. The problem is, my mom doesn't want to get her a teacher, and it's kinda hard to teach someone violin when you play viola. Does anyone have any tips?

Get her the Essential Elements 2000 book for Violin and work through it with her. apart from basic size and strings the skills are essentially the same. ie fingering and bowings. be patient and work through the book. Hanging out on this site and violaman.com is also highly recommended for the both of you.
