Is anyone using the "Tonal Energy" app? I can't remember if we've talked about it, here on the forum.
I'm convinced it's pretty amazing.
Elizabeth Knaub (Life From The Viola Section) talks about some of it's great uses for practicing in this video.
Love it's used here to play a chord drone for practicing 3 octave arpeggios! (Play Violin)

I've been using it for a few weeks, after my viola teacher recommended it. The chord drone is also useful for nailing intonation in tricky passages in pieces. And the analysis feature is useful not only to tune notes but also to be aware of tendencies: I've learned from it that I have a tendency to play half-steps a bit narrow, for example.

@JohnG -
Thank you.
Found 5 Ways to Download/Use Android Apps on Windows 11/10/8/7 PC [MiniTool Tips]
I like - Way 3. Mirror Your Phone with Microsoft Phone Link App, but still have to install 1st on my phone.
🤭 will get Kevin to do it for me as soon as he's got a minute, tonight - so, we'll see.

That's the only problem with a shruti box - you need someone to play it for you!
Yay, electronic shruti boxes are common nowadays!
"easier and less expensive than maintaining a live tanpura player"
Lol, they make it sound like a pet dog!

...update.
Downloaded the Tonal Energy app to my phone, Kevin took over & then downloaded the Microsoft Phone Sync on my Alien - it found everything on my phone EXCEPT the Tonal Energy app!!!
I've been avoiding Windows 11, but will update now, while Kevin's off doing some other stuff - something about needing 'the insider's club' to get the android emulator (?)
We have a couple tablets for the Kids to use, but really want this on my larger screen - so, I'll keep trying to get Tonal Energy on my laptop.

Not bad for the analysis part. Took a minute to figure out the interface though.i dont like the tones it generates. much prefer a youtube video for drone tones in root, 5th, octave..
as far as shruti boxes...there are some shruti box and tanpura apps on google play.
You can change the tone that it uses for drones. I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I set it to sound like an oboe.

Darol Anger has drones on band camp for sale, all keys. Two tonics an Octave apart and a fifth in just intonation.
I bought them several years ago and like them very much.

I have those too Mark on my computer in practice room. If its booted up thats what ill use mainly if playing to these type of tracks. need to copy them over to the phone. At least wouldnt have the youtube ad to deal with on the cello tracks.
@AndrewH i see that now! the bass makes it a bit better and it sounds like you can add an octave.

Oops, forgot to update!
Didn't download Windows 11, because I got sidetracked when I found there was a 'tablet mode' that could be set on my laptop. Turned it over to Kevin for a day to see if he could find a way to get the tablet app accepted to my laptop in that mode - wouldn't let him download it. Don't know what else he tried, but didn't work.
He kind of discouraged from even bothering with Windows 11, but what the heck - I might as well try one last ditch effort this weekend, otherwise the app will just sit on my phone... pretty much unused. 😔
Geez, maybe it's time for me to start buggin' the company to make it work for laptops!!!
