If you can play it perfectly already, probably no need to post here - but that should not stop you - all contributions are always welcome of course - please do not hold back - virtuoso or beginner - all is welcomed !

This attached thread is just for FM forum folks to share "what they have got/achieved so far on the project".

This is NOT a critique thread.

It is for sharing "where we are" and "what bits we find difficult", or anything else related to the FiddlerMan 2015 House of the Rising Sun project....  like "that's not how I hear it in my head" ( LOL - man - @Fiddlerman - that was no comment on your arrangement - you know what I mean, I'm sure )

I can't record anything right now, but will post my "this is how I hear the first 12 bars on fiddle" very soon !   LOLOL hahahaha

-  Hey - this thread has been started for fun and for sharing, because I SIMPLY KNOW lots of folks want some feedback on what they are doing, nothing more....  feel free to add your attempts at various parts, or "parts of parts", even if it is a few bars saying "this is where I struggle" and so on...

Let's talk about it, and more to the point, enjoy....

Bill

Awesome thread Bill..

Can't wait to submit something... Nothing too smooth flowing off my bow yet.... :)

I did listen to the Original Animals track on youtube today on the way to work three times... I am trying to get a good sense of the song.

Here is a link to the background of the song.. there is also a lot to be found on google searches as to the meaning of the "house" of the Rising Sun.

Arrrrrghhhh @coolpinkone  LMAO - I thought I knew enough already about that darned piece ( LOL - I LOVE IT ) - just TMI to follow on that link... LOLOL - totally cool though for the "youngsters" getting to know it for the first time !!!!!  Good link with LOTS of follow-up info !  Nice one!

Hopefully, this associated thread to the main project should be cool.

It is for "any" related version of "what you do" and "how it sounds like" and "what problems we are having" with any particular part (vln or vla) of the Rising Sun project.

And yes, OF COURSE, we are working towards the end goal of the FM ( @Fiddlerman ) 's score, of COURSE we are - but what this thread is about is "how we get there" and "how we feel it"...

Cool...

LOL @TerryT - well, thank you so much for that man!   Pretty awesome.   My fine FM bow is now short of half a dozen hairs trying to rock along to it !!!!   What's more, I have just about blown out the house windows with the volume wound up to stupid levels.... "Well, thanks a lot dude!" (note the hint of sarcasm there!) LOL - seriously - great fun had by all except my neighbours.

P.S.  I have mailed an updated MuseScore version to all those who had the original - if anyone else wants a copy, PM me with email address.

My first practice out-take - now - it's only the first 8 bars about 6 times over - and it is "not quite" according to the sheet - nor is it at the expected tempo.  It is just "how I hear it in my head" nothing more.

Naturally, I'll be using FM's click and score for real submissions - this was just me having fun and kind of messing with a new (to me) bowing technique. (Which, although much more controlled here, is also what bust those hairs on my bow when I was thrashing the poor Concert to within an inch of its life, Terry!  Thanks again mate!)

Not laughing at anything here @cdennyb ( other than the busted hair on my bow! ).

Cool sound Mr. Denny ( ! ) - aye - "haunting" and "ethereal" - and I know exactly what you mean by "unlearning" something !!!  LOL.  Not that I've played it on violin before - but I have my own acoustic guitar version and of course can't quite get it out of my mind! LOL

And THANK YOU for the out-take.   EXACTLY what the thread is for, cool work Dennis.

And this is the bit on Vln1 I'm working on at the moment...vln1-34-37.JPGImage Enlarger

.. is MuseScore simply not a "delight"....   if you select a few bars for repeated play you can set up an introductory silence / delay - but it only seems to do it first time round, which is a bit of a pain....   sounds to me like an option that could be added, I'll post a request on the MScore developers forum !

EDIT: Oh, and this is what it sounds like ( NOT ME PLAYING, thank the software! ) -

@cdennyb   Nice work.  @BillyG  nice work.thumbs-up

Good to have a "place" forum... to practice and what not.

I haven't had coffee coffee2and seeing Denny play lefty had my head spinning for a bit.  (I thought he was just showing off again). dazeddazeddazeddazed

@BillyG  thanks for the Musescore bit... that exact little passage was / in my challenge at this point.  I plan to play it slow slow slow and then speed it up.   I have spent most time practice the first sheet of the violin 1 piece... I will spend time with the second sheet this weekend. violin-student

Thanks again... :) treble-1226Toni

 Precisely.

Bring it on folks - bits you're struggling with, bits you've got "real clean", bits you just have questions about (don't suffer in silence), bits where @Fiddlerman's score is giving you nightmares ( ! LOL surely not, Pierre )  - it's a let's-help-each-other-out thread, nothing more.

Thanks Toni !

Just passing interest for MuseScore fans - here is what I can only describe a a "Full Symphonic Rendition" ( all 7 minutes of it ) in MuseScore.   You know, clever as it is, with 38 ( YES 38 ) instrument parts - it's still not just the same as the real thing, with real instruments and real people with the human "imperfections" that bring true life to a piece.

Not a road I would walk down myself, but it surely is a "serious" bit of work.  Here it is - https://musescore.com/user/104.....res/434141

EDIT: PS listen to it on a decent sound system, not your lappy speakers or squeaky headphones...

I looked at that sheet and I saw the placeholders for the 38 but I only heard like 8-10 and saw music written for only a few.

That's odd Denny - sure, not all 38 parts are playing all the time, but I did download it to get it directly into MS and there does seem to be notation on all parts at various places with the single exception of the timpani - which does seem to not have any content at all (and that may possibly be due to the sound font in use - although - that's pretty much a standard - and that surprises me - maybe it is really an empty part - I'll check timpani on the default soundfont I have later) -

I do see notation at various places for all the other parts.   But like I say - a very nice exercise - but most assuredly not a road I would walk along myself.... LOL  Better to spend your time actually playing, and not shifting dots around on the screen !
