Zyex are underrated IMAO. :)

I just replaced the pre-installed Zyex strings on my silent violin to Larsen Virtuosos and it made a HUGE difference.

I thought the somewhat two-dimensional sound and only choice of loud and squeaky-loud dynamics was because the SV250 is nearly solid-body, but apparently it was the strings! My silent sounds, through my headphones, nearly indistinguishable from an acoustic violin, and the playing experience is so captivating, I can't wait to get home and play on it again :D

The string change couldn't' have come at a better time as my acoustic fiddle is currently suffering from these problematic "Tonicas" right now. I have a set of fiddlerman strings on the way, and I'll post some sound clips before and after the string change when they arrive :)

I'll never for the life of me understand why people are so damned cheap that they have to resort to buying strings online (to save a couple bucks) that they have no idea who they are dealing with. Spend a little more and be sure of what you are getting.

I'm not sure if Zyex strings are made for an eviolin. Zyex are made to resonate with an acoustic violin.

We spend good money for a violin and put $10.00 strings on it... sheesh...

My thoughts

This actually wasn't an issue with cost as I'm rather picky with my strings. I've been insanely busy with work and my go-to violin shop has limited hours. I bought them while I was putting in an order for o-rings to fit a magic bullet for my mom, thinking it would save me some time.

I think buying online is the best. Of course, it's important that you can return it if necessary and that the seller has a good reputation. I buy the majority of the things I need online not least of all because I don't feel my time is well spent traveling to get what I need. Food is the exception, though there is a good deal of food available online too. :)

I'm all for shopping online if it means saving time and money :)

I'll have to give the Fiddlerman strings a try when I'm brave enough to try changing strings.

Sure, I'm an online shopper myself, but when I do buy online I buy from a reputable dealer. I've spent a lot of money in the last three years buying from Fiddlershop and never once have I had any complaints. I have total trust in the products and in Pierre and Mike.

Thank you both for a great and trustful experience.

@damfino , if you feel you want different strings on your instrument, by all means go ahead and do it, don't be scared of it. Just take it slowly one step at a time. If someone like me can do it, so can you! There are great instructions out there, or maybe you can ask your teacher to help you with it and show you how to.

It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself. Johann S.Bach

@AnnyJ I'm going to give it a try, so I went ahead and ordered them, I also bought an E string after my lesson today that was suggested by my teacher, because neither of us like the sound of my E string now that I'm using it more in class, lol, so I got the one she uses. So I'm going to be brave soon and try changing them, lol.

I have a vintage or antique violin that is decoration only, but I used it to practice re-stringing it so that it looks usable. I'm also going to try resetting the sound post in it soon so that I can have some practice with that. It was only $30 so I really don't care if I mess it up doing anything, lol.

I forgot to add that with every string set from Fiddlershop a micro-fiber cleaning cloth is included and is great for cleaning the rosin off the strings.

Although I still use alcohol to clean the upper portion of the finger board.  clap

OK, here we go......

I received my, "Fiddlerman" strings Tuesday. I was unsure on which violin to put them on. My $ 300.00 FM "Concert Master, now known simply as the, "Concert" or on my, $ 4,000.00 (list) "Frenzo Bartali". I've been playing the "FB" for the last 6 mos. because when I bought it it had the sound I was looking for in a violin. Now I'm not sure if it's a case of just getting used to the sound of the "FB" or is it just me, but the "FB" sounds a little dry with very little resonance, (kinda dull sounding).

I haven't been to happy with the sound of the FM, "Concert Master" lately so I decided to put the "Fiddlerman" strings on it. Almost finished installing the new strings and I hear a "click" and knew exactly what that meant, the sound post had fallen, no big deal, I've moved and set sound post's a thousand times. So I use my sound post tool and reset  the post.

I must have gotten it in the right position the first time, because now the "Concert" has a rich brilliant sound with great resonance. I'm not sure if it's the location of the s/post or a combination of strings and post, but I love the sound of it and as of right now, it's my preferred violin to play.

In the past the different strings I've used / tried include. "Overture", several sets of "Zyex", "Obligato", "Evah Pirazzi", "Helicore",and"Infeld Reds" and I'm very impressed with the "Fiddlerman" strings.

Thanks, Pierre, they are awesome.

Hi Ken ... How nice to hear your reporting on the strings.    Glad to hear from you.   Wow so a sound post move and new strings and you are happy again with the concert violin!!!

I know putting the Larssen strings on my Soloist violin really made a big difference for me.... I am so happy with the Laresen strings that it will be hard to change ... But you know how that goes ..... And I did come home from work and found my e-string broke on the loop end.... That never happened with Zyex so I was not thrilled about that... I put my gold estring back on for now.  I do not like it better than the Larsen Estring.

And I am am loving my Ming violin.   I actually play both violins everyday.  They are just that good.  Still have my original violin for sale on Craig's list.   No takers yet.

Anyway... Just felt chatty.  Nice to see ya!

Vibrato Desperato.... Desperately seeking vibrato
