This solid body electric violin has a base sound comparable with my Zeta Jazz Fusion violin which cost me 30 times more money 10 years ago. It is easy to play and all the parts are in good working condition. Nice Ebony pegs and tailpiece with mother of pearl inlay. The violin is attractive and gives the impression of a fiddle that costs much more money. The violin includes features that you wouldn't expect to find on such a low priced instrument. The case looks really nice but the cloth lining ripped easily when I separated the velcro neck holder.

The chin-rest is not molded. In other words you can change it. I would need a different one for sure. Also, I would want to put some thin backing on the back of the violin to go without a shoulder rest.

Even without effects, it doesn't seem to have the annoying, "shrieking" sound that normally comes with the electric violins. What effects gadget did you use for it btw?

That thing is super cool! The case looks like the one I have for my violin, except the box I'm using is tapered near where the scroll is. The cloth Velcro lining ripped out of both it, and the incorrect sized one I tried.

I noticed that it had a wooden bridge. Are the string and bridge the same as a regular violin, do you think changing the strings to a more expensive brand would change the sound the same way it might for a violin?

Yes, the bridge and strings are the same as a regular violin.

I honestly don't think that changing the strings would affect the sound too much. I do however think that it would be easier to tune and to play in tune. Steel strings are so stiff that if you press real hard the pitch goes up.

Here. I've actually seen it cheaper elsewhere from time to time. Keep your eyes open at Samuel Ash music stores for example. The Line 6 pocket pod is supposed to be good and only costs about $50.

Instrument Intellect who seems to be offering the $79 dollar price would also cost S&H about $25 !!!

In any case, were you actually using a specific effect or did you dial in the sound on an equalizer function.  Or both ?

However, I think I'm building a strong case for a Father's Day present here AND I can tell my wife it is endorsed by FIDDLERMAN !

LOL, You deserve it Oliver.

I actually mixed my own sound. You just dial the left dial to the effect you want then choose how much and intense you want it then add more effects to that and save. I did that for the mere purpose of showing what difference you get by just adding reverb and there was no preprogramed reverb only effect. Just kept going from there. The G2 comes with a ton of good preprogramed effects but after a while you get confused with too many to choose from.

That looks like the big brother of the G1X I had my eye on :) The sound is very good for $79(Php 3,438), considering secondhand G1x's are sold here for 4,500 and up...blame inflation for that ;)

@Fiddlerman

Yes, I know about the problems of dialing in effects and you're right, it drives me nuts.

I have a manual on the G1.  Looks great for me.  With the 3 band equalizer and a few of the other things like reverb, chorus, vibrato, etc. I might actually get somewhere.

PS  I got faked out here because it seems my wife will agree to me buying the effects box for my birthday (Aug.) if she can go to Vegas with my daughter to watch my son in law in a pool tournament.  (She has no interest at all in pool but will surely drop a bundle at the slot machines !)

Yeah, being the G1 looks OK at half the price of the G2, I will tell her they are now running a sale !

You can put 4 rechargeable double A batteries in there as I did Roq, but you need to take them out to charge them. It would have been a great idea to have a built in rechargeable battery though.

@ Oliver - I think you will be satisfied with that. You may want to play mostly without effects anyway. Will probably just use this for fun :-)

If I am able to dial in the violin electronically so as to avoid trips to a luthier, it will be well worth it.  I would almost rather go to the dentist than a luthier.

Of course, I can almost do that with my 4 channel guitar amp but it only has a reverb for effects.  Even at that, it is nice to be able to tweak the sound at will.

What fun! Is it true that the electric violin is easier to play than the acoustic because you do not have to work so hard on quality of sound? I am interested in a electric violin because of that fact (if its true!) and because I live in a dorm! No privacy! So I need to plug in and use headphones. Thanks for everything!

It is true if you use effects such as reverb and echo to cover the deficiencies. Without those effects you may not be satisfied. However, this is true of any electric violin.cool
