I was bidding on a Josef Lorenz 4/4 and almost got it, but got outbid. Perhaps it's fate, but I popped over to your $99 fiddle video and bought it. I decided that it was best to start with an acoustic, and add a pickup to it later.

So I finally clicked the "Buy Now" button. Can't wait to start looking for it on Wednesday.

Hoka, and thanks for your review on that fiddle, Pierre. Without it, I would have been too concerned that the instrument might not be a decent one, even for a beginner.

One wonders if the damage would have been as severe had the chicken not been tied to the barrel.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to it too. I'll post pics when it shows up. I'll forego posting video until I've knocked off the majority of rust that's collected over the past 27 years.

I'm relearning after an eighteen year gap myself. Time sure does fly.

It sure does. I do have the benefit of having still played a stringed instrument in that time, a bass guitar. However the tuning is entirely different and this violin lacks frets. But with the free online lessons on here, I'm certain I'll be up and running in no time at all. I figure once I'm fairly comfortable I'll try the occasional Skype lesson just to have that objective instruction. Sure couldn't hurt, anyway. lol.

artroland, you'll find out how the violin standard tuning is very close to bass guitar...

Your Bass Fender Precision: (Low to high) = E A D G. The violin is the same but backwards (3rd time I posted this comparison) and got feedback from a couple people that I was wrong ;-) The violin is G D A E and same half steps and full steps are the same.

LOL. Yes, I know about the tuning. I just need to re-learn the fingerboard. In all, this should actually help my fretless bass playing as well.

Oh, and it's a Fender Jazz bass, MGN. Gotta uphold my rep as a jazz bass snob. LOL

On pins and needles about the whole thing, too. Can't wait for it to get here, get it checked out, tuned up, and make all manner of odd noises.
