Also note: if it's only the E string you dislike, consider getting an E string of a different brand. It's so common that many shops (both physical and online) sell string sets with the E string substituted for a different brand, at the usual full-set discount.
Many pros use either Gold Label or Goldbrokat E strings with another brand for the other three strings. Larsen and Warchal Amber E strings are also sometimes substituted in. The Kaplan Non-Whistling E is somewhat popular among amateurs.
(Using a different top string is even more common on viola -- the majority of professional violists use either Larsen or Jargar A strings with a different brand for C, G, and D strings.)

@AndrewH Overall I wasn't crazy about the set at all. Maybe on my other violin but thanks for the heads up on the possibilities there.
@Mouse It could be the bowing for sure. I just haven't had the symptoms with zyex, prelude, helicores, vision or the ob's. the preludes, helicore and zyex were on another fiddle though but even there Its not the soloist. I'm thinking I had something going on with how I installed the e string. time will tell. I'll see how the next couple of weeks play out with the new set. Its possible Ive changed my mechanics without realizing it. I'm still very much a new fiddler. Maybe I'm letting the side of my palm touch the string or something like that.

Grrr- I overlooked the sale !!!! I could use a spare set of FM strings as a backup..
@Mouse said
Does the way person bows affect which strings work best, too, or is it more the violin wood, setup, etc that is the factor?
Right now in my playing and learning journey - I would say it is all down to the bowing (that is for any one specific set up, on one specific violin, bow, and rosin (!!!!) the only thing changing being the strings)
I had a HORRIBLE time getting used to Larsen Virtuoso - but - eventually my "touch" on the bow settled it down. Still, for what I tend to play, not my go to string.
But, we're all different - I'm sure they are great strings !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)
