Look at the ding on the far left. I don't know what that curvature is called on the violin, but you can see that's it's sort of hairy looking....it's more of a paper product than a wood, if that makes sense. Then on the next curve, the finish is chipping off. I have numerous examples of that. Then on the far right, you can see how a large section has broken off. It's probably a good 2 inches long total.
Like I said, fine for a kid who's going to outgrow it.
That's interesting! Which model was that and what model did you get her this time? My daughter dropped her rental violin once and broke the peg. I couldn't tell if she added more chip and dents on that violin because it was pretty much dented already.

I do not know what model number that was. It was a Cecilio. The new one doesn't say anything on the inside so I don't know what it is. It does not have a scratch on it and it's been used for a full year by some other small child, so I'm amazed. Perhaps that child doesn't feel the need for each and every practice session to turn into an audition for Celtic Woman.

I ordered a 1/4 for my nephews daughter. A mendini in purple, her favorite color. I also bought a shoulder rest and a metronome but what else should I get her for her first violin. I found out today that they will be moving overseas. The nephew is in the airforce and trains dogs along with guarding the president. He reinlisted so he has to go overseas for 2 years, eithe Germany or Sweden. I want to get her everything she will need before leaving. Now I also have to figure out what to do with her twin brother's trains I'm giving him. They run on 110 volt and europe is 220 volt. No wonder why I'm going so bald.

No big deal - there are converters from 220V to 110V (unfortunately i don't know sites about that in English, but if you Google it - i guess you can pick one =))
