Hi guys,

Does anyone know of a good iPhone app for tuning the violin? I don't have a good enough pitch to tune with the Violin Tuner on this site, so I've been using the app n-Track Tuner since day one. However, the other day I got my piano tuned (I have my piano in my new flat now after decades of it living at my parents' place!) and the bloke who did it had a proper tuner. So I compared the readings on his and mine and found that the app claims the notes to be between 5 and 10 hZ too low! So that's bad for everything, but especially for our projects!

I could buy a proper tuner myself, I suppose, but money's a bit tight and I thought there might be a better alternative for my phone. Grateful for any suggestions! doublekiss

I use "gStrings" for android. it's free, you can set it to automatically tune, or play a pitch, or listen for a specific pitch/frequency.

Thank you, everyone! I ended up getting insTuner Lite. Not only does it seem to work well, it's also got a much prettier and clearer look than my old app. banana

Cool. That's all that matters. Glad you like it. The tone generator is pretty cool too right?

Just to mention there is a free app called "lingot" which works quite well. Don't know if they have a version for iPhone or Android.

For portable tuning I use a Snark  clip on tuner. Since it clips on and picks up the vibrations from my instrument it makes it easy to tune in a noisy environment, like in a crowded orchestra room where everyone else is practicing, tuning up, etc. It's also quite inexpensive yet very accurate.

For what it's worth, I use Violin MT (multi tuner) on my iPad. Works great, and I like the interface, but it's the only one I've used.
