What to do about chin rest.

You can see in the picture below that sometimes a chin rest is not needed
The violin is a Mark Wood Viper (5 string?) and the body strap is standard with this instrument. I wonder if it is as easy as it looks?
The girl is my Grand Niece who is a sort of junior violin celebrity in NJ. She performs on violin, viola and bassoon (not at the same time).
Her only fault so far is that she is crazy about Bach (violin)! Kids, kids !!!!!!!
