Now that we are officially in fall, I thought I'd get a discussion going about the Christmas project for this year. I know it's a lot of work for Pierre @Fiddlerman , but I'm really hoping that we do one this year.

AND, it would be lovely to get the music early again this year. It was really helpful last year cause it gave me enough time to learn it and to be confident enough to submit a part.

Thoughts anyone? Pierre?

It's definitely not too soon. Funny story, I woke up at 3AM and thought about that. Needs to be decided ASAP. Going to China tomorrow morning but what about, "Little Drummer Boy", or "Jingle Bells"?

That's how it is for me when something is in the back of my mind. Hopefully you fell back asleep quickly! :-)

Personally, I am not a fan of Jingle Bells, but that is all just personal preference. The barking dog version put the final nail in the coffin - LOL.

But Little Drummer Boy is beautiful. As is Mary Did You Know (Pentatonix does an amazing version that could be a cool modern kind of vibe for a piece.) There are so many really pretty Christmas carols, that you almost can't go wrong!

Have a great trip!

I've always been a fan of Josh Groban - Oh Holy Night.

I can play it.  The hard part is making it beautiful.

I love Mary Did You Know. However, we want it to be playable for as many people as possible. I also keep in mind that we can do some cool stuff with the Little Drummer Boy, were we have tapping or drumming on the back of the violin or buckets.... Something like that.
In the past I tend to make the projects too difficult which discourages users to participate.
So let's decide between these two.

Mary Did you Know or Little Drummer Boy?

@Fiddlerman

But you just said Mary, Did You Know might be a little too challenging for some (myself included).

As a side note, I have several personal projects going on with violin for the Christmas holiday.  I probably will not be able to take on much more.

Did you mean Jingle Bells/Little Drummer Boy?

Been somewhat pre-occupied with other things recently, so I'm glad I checked in this morning !  :)

My vote: Either Little Drummer Boy or Jingle Bells - don't mind / can't choose !!!

@CyndieZ - well, where have I been ???? LOL -  I was unaware of Pentatonix - just listened to some of their stuff - real cool - great vocal arrangement - thanks for thatthumbs-up

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

You could do a lot with Little Drummer Boy and it is easier to play that Mary Did You Know. I always liked Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel. * ducks and runs*

I don’t participate, so this is a huge grain of salt.

You could really do a lot with Little Drummer Boy. Maybe you can get someone who does viola and cello to join in. Have always loved that song.

@BillyG Pentatonix is amazing! They have such interesting harmonies, and it blows my mind that they make that sound with only voices! So happy to hear that you enjoyed them also.

I'm good with either Little Drummer Boy or Mary Did You Know. Can't wait to get the music and start working on it.

though I am a backslidden player, I still have the Game of Thrones sheet music on my stand, I am up for this. I have my own arrangement of Little Drummer Boy (in my head) I play so I would vote for that one. But anything to get the juices flowing again would be fine. Sorry for being such a stranger.

When will that be Ripton? I'll try to find time to finish this piece. This was a rough draft.

Although Little Drummer Boy chosen (good choice)

My thought would have been "The Wexford Carol"

A beautiful carol.  I came across a very lovely rendition recently

by Allision Kruse (vocals) and Yo Yo Ma (cello) with violin and

bag pipe backing.  I don't think I am ready this year. maybe next
