Play the 5 natural notes on the D-string while listening very carefully. The 1st and 2nd fingers should be against each other unless you have very small fingers. Memorize the position of your hand and where the fingers should come down in relation to the thumb. Keep the fingers nicely bent and erect. Make comparisons to the open strings to check intonation. Practice till it feels natural and do the G-string exercise before quitting just to reinforce what you have begun to learn.
