Good Morning! How is everyone coming along with the project? I think I have my part pretty well memorized, still working on memorizing the bowings. To help memorize, I keep my violin next to my desk (I work from home) and when I need a mental break, I pick it up and just pluck the notes. How often are y'all practicing it?

In case anyone is interested - there is not yet a link to the Fiddlerman Christmas Project tutorials for 2024 on the Fiddlerman main page, but they actually ARE POSTED on youtube.
Just go to youtube and type in Fiddlerman Group Christmas Project 2024 in the search bar. They are shown there. Gibbles did a great job explaining them.
Mouse, you can delete this post after the link is active.

I just wanted to add the link to the Group Project information to page 2 of this discussion.Fiddlerman 2024 Group Project Information
FYI - Sheet Music has been updated. Fiddlerman mentioned it in his chat roll entry on 10/26/24.

The changes are just to the viola part though aren't they?

Really great to see so many folks interested in participating this year!

I hope to play in the project, but I play violin left-handed, not because I am lefthanded, but because of an injury. So, I hope that is okay. It also allows people to see that there are people that play left handed, as I do in my ensemble.
Quick question, are there preferred violin sections that you still need filled?
Look forward to hearing and seeing this after completion!

Boy, am I glad I opened the email from the Fiddleshop on the String sale and saw the notice for this project. I've been busy trying to learn a new style (Scandi) and join a local Spelmanslag run by my mom's second cousin. Between work, travel and other bad excuses I still struggle with a regular practice routine, but have been focusing over at Fiddlehed with online lessons and live groups. Still struggle with the Viola and can only play it like a fiddle, but hey, it's only about the fun anyway. I will toss my hat into the ring and see what comes out of it. Good to see you all again.

@Fiddlerman I started adding the click track to play along with. I actually find it much easier with the click track, but I do have a problem that I do not seem to get beyond. Maybe, you can give me a tip.I have never had a problem with the starting note with the click tracks, but, I do with this song, I can never start on time, There is something about the "ready start" I cannot seem to start playing at the right time. Is this timing count for the starting being done differently than previous years? Is there a tip you can share?
I tend to have to start with the second measure, the G or even the B if it really throws me) because I cannot get that pickup E (I think it is called a pickup note) in time. I am counting the beats as the click track audio for violin 1 starts, but when it gets to the "ready start" it just does not seem right. I am pretty sure it is me, so is there a tip you can share.
Maybe if it was just 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 just counting, no "ready start". After hearing it once, we will know it goes through the 1 2 3 4 one time, and then the 1 2 3 and we will start with the 4th beat? There is something about that "ready start", or it is just me.
It sounds like it is starting with a count for 2 beats a measure but it is 4 beats a measure, isn't it? Or, maybe it sounds to me like the "start" is not getting its full count before the first note starts playing? Keep in mind, I am probably way off in what it sounds like to me because I do not know all that much about music and this is the only time I play with others.
I have been doing it all morning, and it is the same thing, even though I know when to start based on the other 4 beats, but then the measure starting it all messes me up.
Thanks.
If anyone is having trouble just playing the tune sans click track, and/or having trouble with the 3 beat and longer notes, it is much easier with the click tracks. Once I get beyond the very beginning, the click track cleaned up a lot of my 3 beat and and longer notes. Cool.

@Mouse I asked about this back in September--Fiddlerman's response is here:

Just play the pickup "E" right on his verbal "Start"
Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

i am working on learning to use the metronome. What speed would best match the click track (apologies if this has already been asked/answered) Once I get my timing done, I feel more confident to use the click track. ( I have a hard time hearing the click track and playing along) Thanks
Hi @Ripton,
I just clocked it Very roughly at about 88 bpm.
I use a wireless earbud in my right ear when I use the click track. I can hear my violin well with the left ear. That combo works great for me.
It’s a lovely piece this year. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Glad to know that you’re enjoying FiddleHed.
Cheers,
