I feel that we might just do, "O Come All Ye Faithful" next year. :)

OK, I feel that I've given this poll enough time. Also, I think it's easy enough to allow all levels of instrumentalists to partake. :)

This years Xmas project will be O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.

Now, any suggestions about the key signature before I finalize the parts are now welcome. To be clear, if we modulate, it will be simple, but naturally a bit more difficult than without the modulation. I would modulate up and not down. Just my way.... doublekiss

@Fiddlerman

Key Signature: Something simple. Since this is a group project, time limit, having to figure out and/or get used to a key signature many are not familiar with is not a good idea. Not a time for that, at least for me. Not quite into the area of many flats and sharps.

Appreciate the use of simple with your modulation description. Previous discussion of it pretty much caused panic issues at my end, 😂, of course.

"Oh Come All Ye Faithful" sounds good for next year. Will hold you to that, 😂😂😂.

Most of the versions I've seen online seem to be in Em, which should be pretty straightforward.

Then it could modulate to Bm which is another reasonably easy key for the violin?

I suggest starting in Em (one sharp) modulating to Bm (two sharps).

2nd choice would be for Dm (one flat) modulating to Am (no sharps/flats).

Reasons:

Keys other than Em/Bm and Dm/Am will take violin 1 out of 1st position with modulation and/or have multiple sharps/flats that folks are less familiar/comfortable with.

Of the two sets of keys, I think Em/Bm sounds a little brighter than Dm/Am. For Em/Bm, the high notes are D and A for the two keys, (versus C and G of Dm/Am)—I’m sure it’s a subjective thing, but I think my ear prefers the D & A.

I also think the fingering throughout is a little easier with the Em/Bm.

I spent a couple more hours on this project this morning. Please understand that I tend to make mistakes because I don't check myself enough. If you see anything that bothers you, please let me know before I start transposing and extracting parts.

Also, this PDF score is just for reference. Though you can use it to practice, I haven't finalized the project and am open to all kinds of suggestions. This is just me writing from my own head. There are a few times that I doubled the endings like in bar 13 and in the first and second ending. I'm only doing that so that the click track ensemble sounds more live. If we were performing it with a conductor I would hold one bar longer instead.

See latest score on a more recent post.

Sooo - it's twice through in Em and then once in Bm to the finish, correct?

If that's the case I'm really happy with it. I was concerned that just one repeat on the original version would be much too short. Looks great! (just my 2 cents)

I am going to work on the violin, but if my arm will allow me, I will also try the cello part. I miss my cello. Fingers crossed. This project seems pretty doable that I can spend more time working on the intonation and less time trying to figure it out. Not as intimidating. Just a tad different from my CD's, but after I get over that hoop, should be fine.

I think that if I just do those few measures that are different, I should be able to get the CD versions out of my scatter brain, right?

I forgot the return repeat from the beginning. Here is the new one.

You've got two attachments there now, Pierre. I can't see any difference, but could you delete one to eliminate the ambiguity, please? cheers

I am close to extracting parts now. Made a few changes to bowings as well.

See the draft of quartet, 4 violins, 4 violas, and 2 cellos.
I do this so that those of you who play several instruments can pick and choose and enjoy learning all the parts. HOWEVER, I prefer that violinists choose violin 1 or 2, and violists and cellists use the preferred parts. I'll accept up to 2 submissions of any choice regardless. Glance through the parts and let me know if anything bothers you.
Otherwise, I'll soon create the entire project and extract individual parts as I usually do.

I actually tried to remove one earlier. There is a flaw with SimplePress. When you create an attachment and later want to edit, choosing the attachment that you want to use does not work. When I attempted to "remove attachments", I was shown both file paths (which were the same FYI) and chose to remove one. When I saved the edit, both were gone. dazed

@Fiddlerman,

I played through all four of the violin parts and it all looks good to me.

This is going to be a beautiful presentation.

Thank you so much for all of your work.

Will violin parts be assigned, or do we simply choose one that speaks to us?

Thanks.. Ken

@Kennon You choose your part. From Fiddlerman's post quoted above, "I'll accept up to 2 submissions of any choice regardless."

He does have preferences this time, but not all will be able to play the preferred, so whatever you can do. 😁 If you can't quite get a section, you can muck it, bow without playing the strings. I cannot do that, so last year there was a small section of cello I just could not do, I just out my arm down like I had nothing to play there. I think it was just a measure, not more than two. I do put pressure on myself, but there really is no pressure.

@Kennon - As @Mouse said, any two that you like. I won't turn down a submission unless it doesn't line up with the click track.
