not acronyms - I don't know what these "strings of letters that represent phrases" are called...

Just abbreviations, sadly.

In office communications someone occasionally joked that TLA was a Three Letter Acronym, and someone would correct them: "No, it's a Three Letter Abbreviation".

Laser is an acronym, so it's amusing to see people spelling it Lazer and so on.

🙂 Alf @Gordon Shumway - yeah - that's as far as I got myself on the nomenclature - shame in a silly way, we should have a classification for such daftness...  So I guess they are just "MLAs" (Multiple-LAs) then for want of a better description.

Yup - the "Laser" / "lazer" and the "phased" / "fazed" / "faced" usage/abusage really gets me as well !!! LOLOL....  I had better stop now ....  🙂  Hahahaha

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

FYI- A couple of others I periodically read are RTM....means read the manual. This sometimes comes up when someone asks a question on a software forum. There's also RTFM...but it's rated R. I don't typically talk that way so I don't use that one. How about AAIK...as far as I'm concerned....ok I'm done now * ducks and runs away*.

GregW.........I hope we still bros. I's just kidding man. If you don't like acronyms I will stop using them. Oh and I like drones too 🙂

No one I know ever uses RTM without the F... even people I've never heard use non-abbreviated profanity include the F.

I'm glad I didn't ruffle any feathers GregW. I'm not implying you have feathers surprised We need to hang tight man 🙂 I guess I get carried away on the word comparisons, abbreviations and acronyms.

AndrewH....yes I have seen that a lot. Mainly when someone asks a question akin to " How do I scratch my butt?" Those kinds of questions seem to heat up the more experienced users.

RTFM rolls off the tongue, much like TTFN (Ta-ta for now) used to.

And if you're interested, RTFM has a wikipedia page.
