We Scots are traditionally (and I might add, somewhat unfairly) known for being mean, so living up to our presumed reputation, I'm saving money and not sending any cards this year !  LOL.

So...  Here's my alternative - A Xmas video-card for not only those I've worked most closely with this year - @coolpinkone   @damfino  @Georganne   @Ferret  @gwscheer  @Fiddlerman  @Ripton   @KindaScratchy - but also for all forum members and all the great info you share here !

Anyone else - feel free to post your own Xmas video-card in this thread.....

Go on....   you know you want to .... gingerbreadhousechristmascandle

Very nice, Billy! And thank you :)

You make me wish I had the money to buy a fiddle my teacher is selling, it's an acoustic that she had modified for performing so the pickup is permanently attached and also connected to the bridge... would be fun to plug in and play with some effects :) Cool stuff!

Well - I'm glad you enjoyed it @damfino - I thought it was just a nice-way to say Merry Xmas to everyone !

The $5 piezo pickups I use on my "pretend viola" to make it, with external effects into a "cello", actually work well-beyond my original expectation - but no - I would NOT want to stick 'em on the to back of an MZJ.   Old Hermano is worthless, to anyone but myself - and if it damages the varnish when/if I take them off- well I really don't care ! LOL

I'm actually quite surprised at how well it works - obviously in the video, I remixed the "octave dropped" cello sound (captured electronically - so I didn't actually HEAR it while playing) with the studio-mic captured viola.   It MIGHT have been quite interesting to play the FX box output through my amp, and let the studio-mic alone record the "overall summation" of the sound of the "viola" and the octave-dropped effect...   That would have sounded slightly different with the room-reverb/echo from the amped cello-output via the speakers...

There are many types of pickups which can be used - normal acoustic mics don't cut-it if you want to add FX, but I HAD looked closely at the bridge-mounted transducers by Barcus Berry ( the "clip-on" to the bridge ), and many others - they all start around the $100 mark, and then go UP  LOL - so for now I thought I'd just experiment ...     And why not....

Merry Xmas !  santa3

Have yourself a Very Merry Christmas Bill. Thanks so much for the E card. I take it just as seriously as a card mailed to my house. :) The icing on the cake is that you are performing for us. Thanks

@BillyG thank you.... I am smiling through tears.

I am so excited for Holidays and a good violin new year.

I also know you have had some rough times this year and I thank you so much for being around and being such a dear friend.

Merry Christmas to all here at the forum.  I hope I too can post a video song for everyone.

Cheers.

Thank you @Fran - I'm getting there - and hopefully there is a LOT of improvement to come, particularly in the bowing-side of things and one of these days I'll move out of first position hahahaha !   ( well, I sometimes do, it depends... )

Hope your own return-to-violin journey is progressing well ! violin_girl

Best wishes to you and yours - gingerbreadhousechristmascandle
