Agreed.. about alcohol and the performance....

I think a 1/2 glass of wine to calm the nerves might help with that feeling of utterly being overwhelmed and maybe calm a nerve.clapclap

But seriously, I have done some "testing" with this.. I have had 2 or 3 or beyond glasses of wine and had myself a good ole playing session jimi-hendrix and got out the recorder.facepalmYou know cause it sounded so good and I was hitting all the notes.... (not)........

Okay sorry to those who got a "drunk' text performancefacepalm of me.. LOL... but the next day it was very painful to hear. LOLOLOLOLOfacepalmfacepalmfacepalmfacepalmfacepalm And then I had some "splaining to do....." LOLbeg

I think breathing, focus, confidence and practice is the best tool. ( just my two cents)....

So if Toni/CPO says you are playing at 2:40 on Sat. is that your time or my time?

Hia @Georganne - if you're looking at the scheduled time, on SJ itself, it is (or should be) already converted to your local time (darned clever, what? ).   On SJ, I see Toni's scheduled performance as 11:40pm Saturday - and that's the time she's chosen, but converted to my timezone, which happens to be GMT.   So you'll always see the schedule in "your time".

Yea, post a video, and one of the group can re-broadcast it live on fiddlefest II while holding a web cam and microphone.

Im sure you meant that as a joke, but just in case, thats against streetjelly rules :

Can I use a looper, back tracks?
Yes! You may use additional recorded devices while you perform live. When we say "no recordings," we are specifically talking about rebroadcasting mp3s, CDs, videos, and so on. It's perfectly fine to use recorded instruments and musical components as part of your live performance.

So fiddlefest is this Saturday, I thought Id share a few insights about performing live online. About 5 or 10 minutes before you go on, go to the broadcast page and run it in test mode to make sure your sound is working and your camera is positioned to your liking.

Your audience is there to support you, take the time inbetween tunes to answer back and thank them for applause and tips.

While performing DO NOT stare at the screen and read the chat, focus on your tune.

after you respond to your listeners, take a breath and think a moment before starting your next piece.

Most important,, we are all there to have fun, if you make a mistake, just keep playing.. DO NOT STOP AND APOLOGIZE !! chances are no one but you noticed anyway  violin-student

I look forward to spending the evening with my friends !!

Great tips. Thanks. Have two gigs (weddings) on Saturday and Asa's friend is visiting from Sweden and needs to be picked up later in the evening. She'll be enjoying Florida for 2 weeks. :)
I hoping to be able to tune in late.

A special note to anyone who might be nervous about playing on StreetJelly... confused

Remember that you are NOT performing, devil-violin

you're simply practicing... and that's not something I get nervous doing. dancingexactly

So true Dennis!  And what you say probably applies not only to noob players like myself, but also to "polished performers" (of which we have a good number here) good as they are - but who may still experience the "jelly" legs / "churning" stomach - or who get an uncontrollable case of the "yips" by appearing live.

Oh - reading that - I can sense folks a-shaking in their boots - STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT Bill - and change the subject..... LOL

Talking of changing the subject - if it DOES get overwhelming - stop - speak to the audience, it'll get them to respond in text - just a minute or so talking about - oh - I dunno - how deep is the snow there now?  Takes you mind off it... then return to the task in hand! And don't forget, the bulk of the audience will probably be forum members - so you're really just doing a practice session in front of friends - it's not like you're cutting your first album....

When I started this journey, I would get about 1-in-50 attempts at playing some simple thing sounding "OK".   When I did my first video submission, I was down to about 10 takes to get a good one.   Now, I'm hitting about 1-in-3 takes - be that audio only or vid.   I don't expect to be any better on SJ unless something miraculous happens to my playing in the next 36 hours  LMAO.

@anyone: What time does this event start ?

Unfortunately I may have to work Saturday, I missed Thursday do to the snow and I don't want to miss this. I've missed a lot of SJ performances.

      violin-1267  Good luck to everyone.

@fiddlestix - Ken - I'm first on ATM and that's 10:00pm GMT - so probably around 3 or 4pm states-side depending on your timezone - just check out the SJ site - you'll see the players' scheduled times there, expressed in your own local time.

Billy Gunn is the opening act as of right now, at 4 PM central time.. fiddlers scheduled all the way back to back up until 9 PM when 1stimestar goes on. in hindsight I should of had people list their show times in the schedule too as Im not sure who is doing an hour and who is doing halfs..if any of you guys read this that are scheduled.let me know as Paul was also wondering about a possible spot.  Im pretty sure we have at least two more from the FHO planning to play and Diane says she thinks a couple from her fiddle group also may. I hope we dont have over lapping shows as I want to watch them all so we can support each other..but come what may, theres already 5 hours lined up and that is a success in my eyes... Thanks everyone for making this happen.. one last thing, if you want to play a few and havent scheduled..keep an eye out for those that may only play 30 minutes and jump in on that half hour before the next show
