I think I'd probably bow it something like DUDUD,DU,DUDUD,DU,DUDUUD.

                      (or DUDUD,UU,DUDUD,UU,DUDUUD might be better)

And it's a dance ("ballo"), so be very rhythmical.

It's good that you laugh when you go wrong. I swear when I go wrong. I haven't yet found how to do a bleep in Audacity.

@Katie L -

Sounding great! 🤗

Your intonation is wonderful!

I know I harp on playing along with a video, but it's great for helping with rhythm.

This Autumn Video is good, because her bowing arm is right in front of you while reading the notes - you get to SEE the rhythm while you also HEAR it.  I would slow the video down to .75, at first.

You'll also catch in the video, even when not looking directly, when she changes bowing direction - so you don't need to be thinking about it.  You could even mute the sound and find it helpful to record yourself while playing along to it, because you'll still SEE the rhythm.

I wouldn't stop the bow on the string - she only lightens pressure.  Try to train yourself to keep the bow moving when you've lost your place - it's much less obvious than if you stop dead.

Keep up the great work!

- Emily

your intonation is really good.  think im hearing violin ring on several notes.  It seems like you know a few parts well.  I got that impression by you speeding up ..but then you pause before starting again.  that may be intentional. We do that kind of learning on things too...so if thats whats going on the suggestion may be out of place.

if its because the next section is tricky and your stumbling, try to just practice the measure leading into that tougher section slower and into and through your tougher section the next time.  over and o er and dont play anything else.  move on to something you know well and call it a day..or night.  same thing next practice.  then try again.

when im stumbling over something ill slow way down and only do that part for a while.  a while may be a night or 5 or 6 times.

but you sound great!  hope any of that helps some.

Katie M

I believe just being a little  more familiar with the piece, will provide great dividends.

Just internalizing the rhythm and note patterns so they flow will really make this sound top notch.

Great start on it.

Thank you that is so helpful. I watched the video Emily I like the idea of muting her as well. I also like how you can see her bow arm as well because I was worrying about what mine was doing - that’s why I recorded on the first place. Really like your ideas so I’ll give them a go. And abitrusty yes you are right about the sections being difficult and I have to stop it maybe I lose my way - definitely need to slow down those parts. And thank you Mark I find myself wandering around the house singing it im trying to get it in my head. As for intonation I need to listen more for the ringing notes. I only really can tell if it doesn’t sound right .. but at least that’s something. Thanks all for the comments !!

I agree with Greg, I also think your intonation is really good.

It all depends how much you practice it now, the more you practice it, the better it will get. The only thing I can offer is what someone else said to me, and that is, you are at the stage were you should make sure every note is always in tune, never accept a bad note and think “I will change it later“, do it again straight away. Or at least try to.

Something which I am guilty of. Lol.

@Katie L - As a beginner myself, I can't give you much guidance, but I can applaud your sharing this at this beginning stage. One of the things that I do is attempt the whole thing once or twice, stumbling my way through it to get an overall feel for how badly I'm playing. After that I'll skip the "almost okay" parts and concentrate on the "what the heck am I doing?" parts. Sometimes only a couple of measures or an entire phrase will be played ad nauseum and if it is a rhythm problem, listen again (and again and again) to a well played or MuseScore generated version. Once those phrases are passable, I will start putting them all together.

Personally, I think you're doing well at this stage of learning "Autumn". Grats!

Thanks JohnG and stringy. I posted that because it’s basically how I practice so I will dissect it a bit and work on getting the notes in tune as you say stringy - good advice. Thanks for watching 😀😀

I can only echo the others and add that I wish I had your bow grip.

Glad you're enjoying playing Vivaldi. Like Gordon said, also great that you smile through it. :)
Keep up the great work.

Thank you that’s really kind. My teachers are on the forum as well as those who post you tube videos! So I don’t have a teacher , I did have 5 half hour lessons a while ago around Xmas time but I learnt nothing .. maybe a bit on how to count but she didn’t even look at my technique ! Even if it was bad and I needed to start from scratch I’d  want to know so that was disappointing ! But anyway thanks for the encouragement!
