Hi All,

So I know this doesn’t sound good at all but I’ve been working on my bowing.. trying to get it straight! I think it’s better, hopefully you agree!

looking good to me, tone is better as well. Difficult to keep the bow straight at all times but it does definately improve tone when you do. very straight I would be pleased with the work I had put in if I was you.

Thanks Stringy, really good to get your opinion! There is a really good video by Lora Staples on how to get your bowing straight.

@Katie L -

Doing great!

Check your bow hair tension.  I can't tell if it's just my viewing angle, but you might get better tone with a little less tension.  I think you'll find Lora recommends not more than the width of a No.2 pencil between hair and stick.

Thanks Emily! That’s a good point I just tighten without thinking! I need to do some research!

Yes, you definitely achieve a fairly straight bow draw now. Congrats.

What I do notice is that you seem to be tightening your bow too much. Having its just a little looser would help absorb bumps, bounciness...

It would be nice to see your elbow when drawing the bow which would allow us to give better advice.

Thanks Fiddlerman I appreciate your comments! Yes I have undone the bow a bit now. I will definitely post a video soon so I can see what you think. I’m working on finger patterns at the moment and still practicing Romeo and Juliet! Thanks a lot! Katie

Looks good to me and I also noticed the bow was a bit tight. At its narrowest, a #2 pencil or towards the end of your little finger, should just clear the space.

given people’s fingers are different sizes, the finger option always seemed relative. But, check your finger once you have done the pencil check and see about where on the finger it is about the same. Then, you will always have a check with you if no pencil is available, and also see what the bow looks like. You can also count your turns for a rough idea, too. Many options until th bow tightening becomes natural.
